Scentlicious Supports Autism
Hi I am a mother of 2 children, my 10 year old daughter has Autism and was diagnosed at age 4 she did not speak until she was about 6, she was in the early Intervention by age 2.5. Life has been very difficult and blessed at the same time. I have stayed home with my daughter and currently home school her. I try to help support her and our family by making all natural soy wax tarts (wick less candles) I just finished college for my associates because I am hoping to get a part time job outside the home. I may take a few more classes to get childhood units so I can work with the autistic children in the school district, I think having parents that have raised autistic children work in the classrooms with children on the spectrum would make a huge difference for the children. I am not sure yet when I will be able to do this if at all.
I wanted to let you know about my daughter Jordan and let you know about my tarts because they help support our family and Autism awareness, they are non toxic, natural ecosoya wax and smell awesome! My daughter loves the scents (and the warm wax) lol... (she doesn't stick her fingers in it anymore though
I believe scents are calming and make life so much more enjoyable, they have helped us so much, if you are interested in scents for your home scentlicious tarts are more affordable than most other candles & products in stores and are homemade. (SCENTLICIOUSWEBSCOM)
If you have a daughter with autism I would love to hear from you either to help or hear any advice you may have, I have some new worries as I watch my daughter grow and many times I feel afraid for her future. Nice to meet you, Crystal Samarripa <3
Hello and welcome to the forum. You probably don't know this yet, but a lot of what gets called "autism awareness" ends up not helping autistic people, so some of us are a little leery of anything calling itself that even though plenty of what uses that name is probably just fine. So what are you referring to when you say awareness?
Anyway, we're glad to have you. I'm glad to have you, anyway. I look forward to learning from you and I'd like to think you'll learn from me, too.

That's a question that has been playing around at the back of my head for quite some time now. Don't take it the wrong way or think that i have an agenda or something, really, could you define the term awareness? Does it mean "makes people aware of the existence of autism"?
Welcome here anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for!
Well Autism Awareness is yes just that, educating others on what autism is, if you are a parent of a child with Autism like me, than I am sure you have experienced some uncomfortable situations with ignorant, judgmental "unaware" people. Believe me I can write a book about that hell alone. But I also come into contact with people who are just beginning their journey with autism and I am able to offer them books, DVDs, materials and such that I have purchased or used and of course not everything works for everyone but they are able to try them free, I mean there is so much out there and a lot of it costs a fortune, it costs enough just to try to buy the food and things that are needed, at least for me anyway. And yes I have contributed to Autism research programs that I believed were and are making a difference, of course I understand that there are many out there not doing that. Each person has their own experience and journey with Autism or aspergers etc, I don't try to judge them or assume anything about them, but I do like to try to help anyway I can no matter how small. Some people don't care no matter what and they can kiss my u know what cause I'm not going to hide my head in the sand for the likes of them. It is not enough to know autism exists, but to know the depth of the affect of autism on people and why it suddenly is so prevalent? Thank You all
I feel like making people aware of its importance is less important than correcting misinformation-- like, a lot of people think some funny things about autism, like that autistic people don't have emotions or can't love or that there's some sort of world that traps autistic people inside of it like a jail cell to keep them from interacting or something. I think by now practically everyone has heard the word "autism" and most of them think they know what it is but don't.
