Has anyone given up TV, or limited their TV viewing, and found they feel better for doing it. If so, in what way or ways does it make you feel better?

I can live without it, but I like it, and watch several hours a day. But I still do "productive stuff", like practice my accordion, or study languages.

I don't watch much TV. I enjoy a few shows, but it has never been my main medium of entertainment

Haven't watched TV in over 7 years. It keeps people stupid. Idiotic non-sense.

Sorry, I accidentally posted this in PPR; meant to put it in general discussion. I have requested to have it moved. Off topic for the PPR section; I think.

I still watch TV. But I also have it as background noise when I paint my miniatures for gaming. I love quite a few shows, including Doctor Who.

I like having DVD box sets of TV shows or watching them on the internet. My main issue with TV is the constant exposure to commercials and anti-intellectual media

I gave up TV when I left my parents house back in 1990 and didn't have it again until I got married in
2002.

I never wanted to have the TV and advocated for its removal from our house, but, finally, this year it became my husband's idea to get rid of it, too.

Ahhhhhh.... it's so nice and peaceful without it. I feel better not having it, because it was such a distraction. It feels more peaceful in our house without all the noise.

Now, I only watch DVD's that I get from the library. I can choose quality films.

When I had the TV, watching it became an addiction.

I don't use either for background noise, as they both raise my stress level. I don't use the radio in the car much these days for the same reason. I feel better when they are turned off.

Hope this helps,

Joe

I have put the TV in my son's bedroom. He keeps begging me for a computer, because TV is , I quote, "ridiculous". I don't think it's related to us being autistic though, I didn't imagine people still watched TV for hours at the computer age...do they really?

I haven't watched any TV in nearly 2 years. I don't miss it at all. I use my TV set to post on WP on my Wii.

I grew up watching TV. I found some of my heroes in the shows of the 60's and 70's. The mindless sit-com comedy shows of the 80's and 90's, like cheers, friends, etc. were a comic relief from the stress of work. After 9-11, I got addicted to the 24 hour cycle of "breaking news". I got to the point where it become overwhelming to my senses a few years back and limited my viewing. After not watching it for about 3 months, I understand how much it was influencing my thinking. My sensory issues also seem a little better.

My wife watches it constantly; I don't think she could live without it.

We don't even own a TV anymore since we moved, and even before that, it sat there for a few years unwatched. I do watch shows like Doctor Who and Qi but on the computer thanks to UK Nova. :D
I can't stand it when I go to someone's house and they have the TV on in the background. That pretty much guarantees you can't have a conversation with me because I can't filter out the sound. It's even worse when TV-watching is their social event.

I know exactly how you feel. I find my stress level greatly increases when I watch any sort of 'breaking news'. I keep my news sources to written word nowadays, I think it is literally bad for my heart to watch Fox News or CNN

Thanks.

Maybe it is a sign of growing older for me. I used to love to listen to the radio in my car but haven't used it in years, because I can't stand the noise when I'm driving. I also use to listen to techno music when I exercised and found it exhilirating; about the same time the radio started bothering me in the car the techno music started to stress me instead of exhilirating me. Part of the issue for me was hyposensitivity to sound and light most of my life, and then moving to hypersensitivity to sound and light at about age 45. I'm not sure if it is just age or related to Autism and age in someway.

The worst possible sound from a show that my wife watches that bothers me in another room is "The View". Something about the speed, volume and pitch of the voices talking over each other at the same time.
