Medication side effects: Paxil
I am writing this on behalf of a friend because when they turned to me for an answer I did not really know any good advise to give. Any help from the brainy people on here I have come across could be appreciated a lot.
Since a child they have been very lactose intolerant.
The person suffers depression and anxiety disorder (both generalised and social). They have been on medications in the past for it such as Effexor, Clonazepam, Trazadone, and Clonadine all at the same time, which they took together until October. In December they started on Paxil.

Now they take Paxil, and the lactose intolerance has gone from from bad to very extreme. And as disgusting as it may sound they now have diarrhoea within minutes of eating, which sometimes includes blood and often contains mucus. They think there is possibly something else going on and that the meds are amplifying the problem. Let me jsut recap that this started occuring after the medication treatment started.
Let me just quote one thing they said to me.
The meds are helping them. It is something they need to function, especially since the person has children to look after.
The only suggestions I have been able to make to trying some kind of digestive Enyzmes, chopping up food more finely and eating lots of ginger to help stimulate digestion. These suggestions of mines may help but I know it is not really going to do enough, which is why I thought I'd ask on here.
Does anybody know of anything which could relieve symptoms or alternative medications which don't have these side effects in comparison to cases like this?

If there is blood in the stools then they should see a doctor immediately.
I have never heard of such a side effect from any SSRI (and they have a lot). My own experience of such drugs (mine is Citalopram) is that the drawbacks far outweigh any benefits.
