I am really afraid of insects like spiders and wasps. I generally don't like things that crawl or fly around. They're so scary.

Does anyone else here have this?

Yup
My 12 YO son hates flying insects - is terrified of them
Think it has to do with their unpredictability ?

I was terrified of bees when I was little, but for some reason they don't bother me much anymore. Centipedes and earwigs really freak me out.

Yeah, I think so. I already get scared just by looking at them though.

I do not like insects crawling on me because of the feel. I do not like things flying because I can not track them. However, I am still very interested in insects. Sensory issues can't stop you from everything.

I was afraid of bees and wasps, anything that stings you. I got stung by a bee when I was five years old and I was minding my own business and I put my leg down and then I scream and I see a bee. Since then I had a fear of them. They also sting you if you accidentally step on one. I have had that happened twice in my life time. One time I had to go to the ER because the pain was so severe. I was 14 then and I was creaming in the room and wouldn't hold still. My mom told them I was having anxiety and had to hold me down. That was the worst bee sting ever. It was so bad I couldn't even walk on that foot. And this bee was black. I don't know what kind of insect it was.

I find it kind of strange that earwigs freak me out so much. From what I understand, the worst they can do with their pincers feels like a tiny pinprick, but the way they look is what disturbs me. I imagine a centipede bite is very painful, since they have venom and a strong grip. For some reason spiders don't really bother me except when they surprise me.

I had a serious earwig fear when I was a teenager. My family had moved into this new house, and I actually got my own bedroom (a novelty!). One night I found an earwig in my bed, and I tracked it back to the carpet, pulled up the carpet and it was a scene from Hell: Numerous earwigs all over the place. I could barely sleep and when I did I dreamt of earwigs flying around while I was asleep.

It didn't help that I later learned earwigs can really fly. Not often, but.

I also had a terrible fear of moths, but I loved the caterpillars that turned into moths and kept them as pets several times.

A lot of insects I actually found fascinating (like ants). I also felt horribly guilty when I killed many bugs - except flies. I never feel guilty about flies.

Spiders I never had a phobia about. I prefer not to kill them.

Earwigs can fly?! Great, I'm going to be even worse about them now also, haha. O_O
Centipedes used to only bother me a little, but I developed a much worse fear of them when I was a kid, after hearing one make a SOUND, like a tiny rattlesnake or something. That's the only time I've ever heard one do that (and I think people usually think I'm either lying or just completely insane when I talk about it), but it was the stuff nightmares are made of.

you can always get some preying mantises! They're big, fly, and are insects, but they LOVE other insects! And preying mantises grow to a big size and are pretty harmless to pets and humans. They WILL threaten, but can just laugh. They really can't bite, it tickles if they try 8-), and aren't poisonous.

I'm scared of bugs, especially spiders and anything that flies (yes, even butterflies sometimes).

I've heard bugs make disturbing sounds that no one would believe.

Earwigs rarely fly, if that helps.

I once saw a praying mantis planted in the middle of a country road, facing oncoming traffic. I have no idea what it was up to, but the whole scene had a quixotic feel, in a nearly literal sense.

I've always been so fascinated with praying mantises. I used to play with them a lot when I was a kid. Usually they were quite friendly. I was never bitten by one, but I learned that their pinch can REALLY hurt if they're startled, haha.

when i was younger, i was terrified of ANY stinging, flying insect. If a wasp was in the house, I wouldn't enter that room until somebody killed it. In my teen years, I managed enough courage to exterminate them myself. Now, the only ones who cause me anxiety are those big, red wasps that actively stalk people.
My most horrifying experience was in my post-college years. My wife and I moved in with my parents. Everyone had gone somewhere for the day (including my wife, thank God!). Soomebody had left a kitchen window open, and apparently there were multiple nests in the window ledge. i entered the kitchen, and was welcomed with HUNDREDS of wasps buzzing around and clustering on the upper walls. I about sh*t my pants; the terror was so overwhelming that i went numb. In a daze, I drove to the corner store, bought two cans of Black Death, and returned home. I then proceeded to go "Ash" on them; charging into the kitchen with a can in each hand, screaming "get some!! !! !" over and over as I hosed the upper walls. I terrified a cat, and slipped in the oily spray a couple times. After an hour or so, my heart rate returned to normal, and the little black invaders were all dead. I had a Hell of a time cleaning that oily film off of the ceiling, walls, floor, and surfaces before the family returned home. that was my moment of glory, and I'll remember it 'til my dying day.

I once raised a WHOLE bunch! TWO eggsacks worth! When I came home one day, I saw that my bedroom was INVADED by ANTS! They were near the eggsacks and seemd to be around there. I looked close, they WEREN'T ants. They were BABY praying mantises!

Eventually, I had like 2 dozen stay in my yard. I don't remember EVER getting pinched. And verdandi, they ARE brave! That guy was probably trying to scare the cars away! Like I said though, they don't seem to be a threat to ANY animals. But they will catch and readily eat almost any insect.

I had a few pinch the crap out of me when I was a kid, but I'm sure that was just because my movements scared them when I was holding them (I was kind of a spazz as a kid). The little spines on their forearms are really sharp!
