We have a rather open office and people will speak out loudly on occasion so that everyone can hear - usually something light and fluffy.

I just caught myself repeating exactly what somebody just said. I was pretty much being an echo. I also realized I do this with some regularity.

It weirded me out. OMG. I think I have some residual echolalia. I'm going to have listen to others when these call outs happen. Maybe everybody does it.

One day a week I do some work in the office of a garage and there's a fair amount of traffic as various customers drop in.
Many of them have interesting speech mannerisms or accents and I regularly imitate what they're saying - quietly and secretively, so I don't start getting 'that look' - but it keeps me amused for hours.
Usually I just do multiple repeats of a single word they've said, or sometimes a whole sentence because of some interesting rhythmic or tonal sequence about it.
It's not like I'm tuning into what's actually being said, and most of the time I'm not really aware of it being anything other than just a curious/interesting sound.

I don't have echolalia.....but I have palilalia (especially when tired) and I repeat words and phrases to myself.

I repeat what someone says involuntarily sometimes, and I didn't know it was related to autism until about the last 6 months. Always thought it was weird. I still do it but I'm less hard on myself when I do it now. It's just a symptom of autism, I don't think we can change that. Am I wrong?

I think I am more likely to repeat what I hear from movies and television shows than in real life, but I am not positive.

I have some of the palilalia, though. I tend to repeat words and phrases to myself a lot, and I am not sure how frequently to other people.

I used to repeat quote from movies, all the time.
