It seems like every time somebody's cell phone rings, they roll their eyes and say, "Who's calling me now?"

I always think someone might be thinking this when I call them and that's one of the reasons phone calls make me so nervous.

It's like, if you want to be so social, why do you complain whenever you get a call?

I've also noticed that. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of having a cell phone?

I do the same thing but then again I'm not social. Answering a phone takes me away from doing what I was doing at that moment and I don't like any slight change. I also don't feel like talking to people at certain times. And if it's an unknown number that can make me nervous.

Its nothing but their effort to draw attention to themselves in order to enhance their own underlying poor self image.

My phone is usually hidden and is always on silent mode. I sort of check on it 1-3 times a day and see who called. Any number not stored in my contacts is ignored. Voicemail is never checked. I'll call people back at my leisure.

Some people get upset over this but that's too bad. Humans have survived for a long while before you could magically contact them no matter where or when they are.

Seriously? Or maybe they can't be bothered to take a call. Or they secretly hate everyone on their contacts list. I know I do.

Yes seriously!! ! So many NTs are so full of themselves that they seem to have a penchant for imposing themselves on other people while doing anything to draw more attention to themselves when they feel that they are not getting enough attention. If they do not want to be bothered with the call they should just turn the phone off and ignore it instead of using it as an excuse to attract attention.

My mom has always done this habitually and it just drives me up the wall. She does this with a different twist though, saying something highly opinionated (and usually critical of someone else) then punctuating it with this condescending little giggle as if the whole world agrees with her, when that is usually not the case.

Amen.

I do react that way when my home phone rings, but not in front of other people. I keep my cell phone off, so no one can call me on it.
I think TTR is right. They are making a show of having so many people dying to talk to them that it's a hassle being so wanted.

Hmm...I tend to become rather excited and/or hopeful when people call me. I'm always hoping that someone wants to hang out or talk to me. It's usually a wrong number or someone calling for answers to homework or asking if we have a presentation due in public speaking. *sigh*

I know for me, answering the phone takes effort that I don't always want to expend. So when it does ring, I may be really exasperated and annoyed. I also have a habit of having my cell ringer turned down really low so that I don't get startled when it rings.

I should probably just get in the habit of leaving it on silent. Whenever I do do that, though, I forget about the existence of my cell phone and come back to find 10 missed calls, all from my parents. x_x

Guess I just can't win.

I do what the OP describes.

I have a mobile phone so my work can contact me to let me know if my starting time has changed; it's nothing to do with wanting to be social.

It used to annoy me that people I didn't want to talk to would call constantly while the one person I wanted to hear from never called :(

the situations i have seen that in always involve another person. It is generally seen as a bad thing to be on the phone whilst another person is waiting to talk to you in person.

if you show that you don't want to talk to the person on the phone it may somewhat appease the other person and let them know that you will try to keep it quick.

there will be other reasons but as far as i can see that is a good reason to behave so.

Some people have to have cell phones because of their work. I don't feel too bad about interrupting them, because I think that they would be a lot unhappier if they got fired for not answering calls.

Other than that, I think that some people just like to be melodramatic. Getting interrupted by a phone call is annoying, but it's not that big a deal.
