I have trich, and I also stim a lot. I don't rock or hand flap, but I will wear shirts out by rolling the fabric around, break off buttons, pick at anything that is irregular, etc.

I was looking up ways to quell the trich and found that NAC seemed to be pretty effective. I've been using it for over a year now, sometimes running out and going a couple weeks without it.

From personal experience I can say it's highly effective. It magically just cuts down that sort of tension that makes you need to stim or pick. I can't say that it cuts down stimming itself, but a lot of my stimming was manifesting as trich, and so while I still stim, I don't think it's as much and I am have definitely had an easier time keeping my fingers away from my hair.

I used to have pretty decent bald patches in my beard all the time and for the past year it's like I only break down and do it every 2-3 months.

It has a short half-life and you can take a little bit or a lot. I'm not aware of any side-effects or interactions, although I'd recommend you look that up yourself. I can definitely, definitely tell when I haven't taken it, especially after a few days.

I just put this here hoping that maybe someone could get some use out of it. It's pretty relieving stuff. I use the Jarrow brand because they make a good, consistent quality product across the board, but I'm not affiliated with them in any way (in fact, one of my clients is a competitor so I'm actually sort of the opposite of an affiliate).
