Hello, as a person who definitely possesses neurotypical sensitivities, I've noticed there are a lot of people who claim to be diagnosed with aspergers who show classic symptoms of the neurotypical disorder, as can be inferred by their interactions with individuals who clearly demonstrate 'asperger symptoms'. Things like sarcasm, emotional-based reactions and responses that have a high percentage of basis on "gut feelings" that are emotional in nature.

So, I was thinking it'd be my solemn duty to root out the neurotypical moles about us that masquerade as aspergers individuals, as a service of absolving them of their delusions and as a service to the community who may want to more accurately know the psychological nature of their correspondents.

So, let's first determine if such a service is needed and/or desired!

And, then after that, let's determine the best way to go about it! While, surely, in my infinite wisdom, I'm solely capable of accurately determining who possesses aspergers and who doesn't, I may potentially get it wrong a few times and the wisdom of the group may definitely help out. However, when discussing members who may actually be neurotypical, we probably don't want to offend them by letting them knowing they're being discussed about, so these discussions may have to occur in secret, so using this thread for such discussions may be unwise. However, maybe the majority of individuals might find it fun! And, who knows, the people being talked about it may enjoy it! Heck, if they *really* are neurotypicals, they'll *love* being talked and gossiped about as they usually love attention. :lol:

No, it's not.

There, that was easy. :wink:

You're probably not neurotypical. Your opinion doesn't count. :wink:

I dunno. I understand sarcasm. In fact, I think I'd qualify for all of the following.

Quote:
sarcasm, emotional-based reactions and responses that have a high percentage of basis on "gut feelings" that are emotional in nature.

I'm very in tune with my gut, and I use emotions as a guide, though I only rarely give them the reins.

My post was sarcasm, so maybe you don't understand it as well as you think? :P

Haha, joking, you seem to be pretty neurotypical. So the following are the scores so far:

NT for/against: 0::1

ASPIE for/against: 0::0

AS and ADHD in writing and stamped official.

I think this is a timely thread and just want to throw in that there are many people now jumping on the selling "social skills" band wagon and given the paucity of published peer reviewed studies there are a lot of opportunists out there. No offence to anyone intended but worth keeing an eye out for people who claim to have the disorder and then direct you to their website. If anyone is interested in learning some skills which they can use in the education system then PM me as I'm arranging some seminars on the web. There will be no charge for these.

I detected the jokey tone, but for sarcasm, one really needs to know a person's regular MO. Especially on the internet.

Besides, joke or not, this thread isn't a good idea.

Which post was sarcasm, the original post or the post before this one? Is this post sarcasm too? None of this makes sense. You say that NOT being neurotypical means one doesn't get an opinion?.. So you're looking for opinions from neurotypicals?

Anyway, my nonneurotypical opinion(Which apparently doesn't count, unless that post was sarcasm) is that trying to figure out who is and isn't neurotypical based on Internet posts is silly.

Don't be afraid of giving arguments against.

So far, there are two arguments for, and (almost) none against. I think the main argument against is that this would turn into a "gossip thread" with people quibbling over this and that, but hey, gossiping is fun for neurotypicals, no?

So you want to ferret out the people you think might be NT's based on your opinion that their responses here don't fit your misconceptions of the diagnostic criteria for Aspergers.

Did I get that right?

Nah, all "substantial opinions" are valid, regardless if they come from aspies or NTs. But as far as voting counts, I might weight them differently, with giving neurotypical votes more weight since they're ultimately the ones who would be indicted, and neurotypical voters would be representative of the neurotypical moles.

Score summary:

NT for/against: 0::1

ASPIE for/against: 0::1

Exactly! Brilliant, isn't it?

To minimize my subjective biases that you pinpointed, it would go through a peer review process before rendering final judgement.

this thread isn't a good idea at all, especially with me around. People who know how I can get on these forums know EXACTLY why.

Anti NT witch-hunts and kangaroo courts are off the agenda.
