I am new to the computer and currently adicted to the forums and IM....also have a life long "habit" of having conversations in my head...sometimes just to work out how I think or feel about something but ussually...."practice" conversations with a particulat person I am worried about,(my boss or new Psyc)...This mind typing only happens when I am trying to get to sleep , not during "day dream" type conversations, which happen during any time I am not engaged in an activity that otherwise engages me(such as doing work on the job)

The problem is....I now see and type out these conversations in my mind...I type by looking at my fingers on the keyboard(newbie habit?),so as I am trying to communicate my thoughts inmy mind I can only go as fast as I can type....abit annoying to say the least....I use to do something similiar when I was learning how to read/write....writing the words in the carpet with my fingers...then erasing the "nap" of the carpet and writting a new word...I did this in front of the TV...writting out specific words that the characters were saying.

Anyone else experience this...does it go away after years of useing the computer?

krex, I "mind type" all the time. I also type sentences softly into the air (or under the table, etc.) as I'm talking to someone. Sometimes I'll also type a single word or short phrase into the air repeatedly if I'm keyed up about something. Hee hee. No pun intended.

My computer Keyboard is the first thing that I see, when I close my Eyes at night. I also have dreams about being on the Internet.

Addicted Much? j/k.

Having converstions in the mind is very common for me. I do it all the time. So that's not wiered, and also mind typing when having a mental block. But, I've never heard of people air typing before, though i do see why some people would do it.

I do this a lot too. I remember in the 9th grade, when I learned how to type without looking, I typed every single word out in my head (and it was getting annoying after awhile). Then I started playing this mind game where I had to figure out words that had equal amounts of letters that I typed on each hand to where it balanced out (like 3 letters on the right hand, and three letters on the left and what not). I also have practise conversations, but I don't very often type them in my head; it doesn't mean I don't, however. Lots of the time when I'm alone or I'm out running or I'm just plain lonely I have conversations by myself with someone I want to talk with (I know they aren't really there, however; that'd just be weird to imagine your friends there in your room, and then they just came out of nowhere lol. I'd be scared! lol)

When I read the topic line I thought maybe you'd had some sort of terrible accident.

Lol Enigmatic_Oddity!! !

I do this a lot. I imagine conversations via IM, and imagine myself typing them out. I know pretty much where the keys are but still can't touch-type, somehow. *shrug* But yes, there's my answer.

When I speak I see the words typed in my head. I sometimes imagine typing and "look" at the keys in my head, "typing."
