I was visiting some old friends at university a few weeks ago. I noticed when walking down the hallway there was this poster titled 'Autism' and the words underneath it "Because being an a**hole is a disease" On the photo as well there was this image of an autistic child playing in a field in his own world and that kind of thing :?

Do you think that was a disgusting and unfair poster or not?

YES, THAT IS OFFENSIVE. Michael Savage developed that poster I think. Just kidding, about the latter comment, not the former.

I would say so. Are they saying all a**holes have autism and autism is a new word for being an a**hole? So being in your own world makes you an a**hole?

The common and garden idiot thinks his "common sense" counts for something insightful. Never mind what qualified professionals or academics say. Autism? Pah no such thing!

I think it's supposed to be satirical

I'm assuming that the poster was created for satirical purposes, but still, it doesn't help the perceptions of the ones who know little about Autism.

That's the stupidest poster that I've ever seen, and I see no humour behind it.

As much as I disagree with the poster being used to offend a person, the best thing for anyone to do is to say "who gives an F?" and ignore anything childish like that. People used to torment me over so many things. Today I just ignore them.

Then you're playing into the hands of the people who produce these sorts of posters.

There's free speech on the Internet. Yes, it may be a bit inconsiderate and non-politically correct but so are a lot of the other things on here. They aren't calling for autistics to be gassed, for heaven's sake. Let it be.

The nature of 'offence' is insidious - who decides what is and what is not offensive? You can't. So free speech must reign.

I have never been offended by ignorance.

Also, I wonder if whomever made the poster realizes the irony of the fact that such a thing could have only been created by an a**hole.

They aren't saying every a**hole has autism. They're saying every person with autism is an a**hole; which might actually be a worse thing to say.

The boy in the poster is turning into a bit of a meme. I first saw him in a magazine article about autism. At first his image circulated as evidence of how people with autism can look beautific. But now that the Demotivational Posters people have got hold of his image, the meme has warped from beautific shamanism (which it was for a while) into...this.
