I spend my life in front of a computer, but it's my job. It's a little tricky separating the work from the fluff. Plus some of those questions seem slanted towards NT. I really can't say that internet usage affects my social life.I have no social life on or off the internet.

"20 - 49 points: You are an average on-line user. You may surf the Web a bit too long at times, but you have control over your usage."

Nah. I am here almost all the time and never for too long at any time ... but yes, that is all under my direct control!

35. "Average user."

I think my online tendencies could still be mistaken for Internet addiction, though.

My problem isn't actually with the Internet; it's with task-switching. Switching away from the Internet is difficult; but so is switching away from anything else I might be doing--whether that's lying in bed, reading a book, doing a project, or any other task that doesn't have a natural conclusion. I am far more likely to read a book in one sitting than to put it down and pick it up again, for example. The Internet's nature as a near-limitless store of information makes it one of the things in my life that doesn't have a natural stopping point, and that means I have more trouble switching away from it than from anything else.

So yeah, it's a transition problem, pretty much. Important distinction there--removing the Internet won't cure it (I know; I've tried); making transitions easier somehow is a better idea. I'm currently looking for a program with which I can automatically cut off Internet use after a specified amount of time--say, an hour or two--so it'll be easier to switch away from it. I'm looking for something that's got kind of an auto-timer that I can set--"Okay, I want to spend two hours on the 'Net; and after that I want to stop"--and have it kick me off automatically after that time.

Too bad there are no auto-kick programs for books. Those, I still pretty much end up finishing before I do anything else.

Congratulations, your score is: 62

The 60s seem to be a common theme with me, these days. :lol:

Hm. I tried to take the quiz and got an error... page not found. Eh well. I likely would have scored low anyhow. I have not been spending too much time online lately anyway. I go in spurts with this stuff.

My husband thinks I am addicted to the internet which is true but to say I have an internet addiction is not true. If I were truly addicted, I'd always be anxious to get home and use it, I'd always be anxious at work because I am not on it, same as out in public. I would be calling in sick just to say home to be on it or ignoring my baby or not doing my housework.

My score sounds accurate though because I would get anxious if I couldn't use it at home but I don't get anxious if I have to get off. I can't even imagine not having internet and if I couldn't steal it.

The internet just gives me something to do and gives me company and I do get bored with it. But always feel the need to surf it, even if I am watching TV.

It still works for me. Maybe try a "Refresh Page"?

Either way, here it is if you would like to score it manually:

=======================
To assess (and score) your level of addiction, answer the following questions using this scale:

1 = Rarely.
2 = Occasionally.
3 = Frequently.
4 = Often.
5 = Always.

1. How often do you find that you stay on-line longer than you intended?

2. How often do you neglect household chores to spend more time on-line?

3. How often do you prefer the excitement of the Internet to intimacy with your partner?

4. How often do you form new relationships with fellow on-line users?

5. How often do others in your life complain to you about the amount of time you spend on-line?

6. How often do your grades or school work suffer because of the amount of time you spend on-line?

7. How often do you check your e-mail before something else that you need to do?

8. How often does your job performance or productivity suffer because of the Internet?

9. How often do you become defensive or secretive when anyone asks you what you do on-line?

10. How often do you block out disturbing thoughts about your life with soothing thoughts of the Internet?

11. How often do you find yourself anticipating when you will go on-line again?

12. How often do you fear that life without the Internet would be boring, empty, and joyless?

13. How often do you snap, yell, or act annoyed if someone bothers you while you are on-line?

14. How often do you lose sleep due to late-night log-ins?

15. How often do you feel preoccupied with the Internet when off-line, or fantasize about being on-line?

16. How often do you find yourself saying "just a few more minutes" when on-line?

17. How often do you try to cut down the amount of time you spend on-line and fail?

18. How often do you try to hide how long you've been on-line?

19. How often do you choose to spend more time on-line over going out with others?

20. How often do you feel depressed, moody, or nervous when you are off-line, which goes away once you are back on-line?

=======================

After you've answered all the questions, add the numbers you selected for each response to obtain a final score. The higher your score, the greater your level of addiction and the problems your Internet usage causes. Here's a general scale to help measure your score:

20 - 49 points: You are an average on-line user. You may surf the Web a bit too long at times, but you have control over your usage.

50 -79 points: You are experiencing occasional or frequent problems because of the Internet. You should consider their full impact on your life.

80 - 100 points: Your Internet usage is causing significant problems in your life. You should evaluate the impact of the Internet on your life and address the problems directly caused by your Internet usage.

After you have identified the category that fits your total score, look back at those questions for which your scored a 4 or 5. Did you realize this was a significant problem for you? For example, if you answered 4 (often) to Question #2 regarding your neglect of household chores, were you aware of just how often your dirty laundry piles up or how empty the refrigerator gets?

Say you answered 5 (always) to Question #14 about lost sleep due to late-night log-ins. Have you ever stopped to think about how hard it has become to drag yourself out of bed every morning? Do you feel exhausted at work? Has this pattern begun to take its toll on your body and your overall health?

I got 40. I use the internet quite a bit, but it doesn't get in the way of things.

I scored a 29, which was surprising to me because I spend about 12 hours per day on the internet. But at the same time it makes sense, because I am not addicted to the internet, it's just that I don't have anything else to do. I don't have a job, I can't drive, I don't have friends, and I don't have relationships with family members. I go to school two nights a week but otherwise have no reason to leave the house. So when I got to the question about "do you often choose to spend time on the internet rather than going out with other people" i had to say that it did not apply, because I do not get opportunities to go out with other people. I don't "miss" or "crave" the internet when my computer is turned off. I will turn my computer off if I have something else to do like reading or studying or sleeping. But the rest of the time I will have it turned on, otherwise I would just be sitting in my house staring at the wall, lol.
