outside of memorizing the answers to the quiz, what did you do to get better

I'm going to assume that's a friendly joke.
I don't know exactly how I got better. I have thought about this quite a bit, though, and here's my best theory (but I could be wrong):
During my thirties (I'm now 44) I was lost and confused. Every now and then, however, there was the odd sign that
something was happening. A couple of years ago I fell into a dream career opportunity (I was finally given the chance to do something with a childhood talent). To take advantage of this I was forced to be more mature and social than ever before. Somehow, I was able to pull it off (though it was very challenging and exhausting). I think that I had been improving (very) slowly over my thirties, before reaching a tipping point at around 40-42, and the career opportunity pushed me over the line, if that makes sense. Once I'd crossed the line I improved rapidly.
I think this is one of the problems with ASD. Being immature, etc., we're denied access to key life building opportunities. This prevents us from maturing, and, therefore, we're denied further opportunities, creating a vicious circle.
