Sammich, you are completely misunderstanding those symptoms. Read up on ADHD more and spend some time talking to people that have got it. Also, just because a person doesn't finish what they're started doesn't mean they are lazy it means THAT THEY ARE EASILY BORED OR DISTRACTED AND THINK THAT IT'S NOT WORTH FINISHING IT DUE TO THE AGONIZING PAIN OF TRYING TO KEEP YOURSELF FOCUSED. Honestly I have time and time again tried to do projects like practicing my artistic skills or writing my own sci-fi but give up because it's takes a lot of time to actually get anywhere with it. A common symptom is failure to set long term goals and stick to them because of being impatient about wait for the reward.
Sorry for the caps, but you sir are pissing me off.
I got diagnosed with ADHD second and the medication has really helped keep me focused. Now I go through periods of hyperactivity, sluggishness/slowness, and somewhat ODD like traits when not on medication. I can fail to focus when both hyperactive and sluggish but for completely different reasons. I don't have the energy or mental focus for it at times but when hyperactive I'm easily bored and cannot just sit and focus on one thing. I usually need to expend some energy and then later come back to what I'm trying to focus on. Or pop a pill.
Anywho I describe my brain as being in different states throughout the day so if one moment I am barely awake and struggling to watch playschool an hour later I could be pacing around bored out of my mind and unable to focus on anything, and then finally I can be able to watch playschool but feel like it wasn't mentally stimulating enough. So there is never an exact opposite disorder with me. And anyone who says I have Bipolar will be thrown in a fiery pit of doom.
I need to do some serious reading on ADHD (or ADD ADD-PI, I don't even know what's what!). Since joining WP I've found that my 'problems' (or 'differences' so to speak) have little to do AS. I was much more of an aspie in my <13 period and sufferered from nearly all of the things I hear about on this forum.
Nowadays my obstacles involve trouble with concentration, following a plan, money and time management, impulsiveness, dodgy sleeping patterns and executive (dys)function. I struggle to stay in one mood - I'm either hyper or static, passing from one to the other far too quickly.
Is there any material on ADHD or dysthimia that you would reccomend? - nothing too in-depth tho, or it will join my growing pile of unread litterature. I just wanna rule things out at least
