Hello! In less than 2 weeks, I am going in for an assessment. I already have a diagnosis of AS, but was apparently given an incomplete assessment (they concluding I had AS with their interaction with me; however, they never gave me any specific "test" or whatever). Anyway, the clinic I am going to this time is giving me the ADIR which I believe is the interview they will be conducting with my Mom present. I have to go a second day for the ADOS. I have an idea about what this is, and now I am completely nervous about it (I wasn't nervous before....). So, I am wondering, if anyone how has had this test, preferably from module 4, but I'll take advice from ANY module right about now: could you tell me with some detail what exactly I can expect during this?? I've only seen jot note form so far, so it would be nice to have a bit more information (ie. what kind of story do I have to tell? I can read fine; I cannot make up anything at the top of my head. What kind of construction project am I expected to do? I have no idea how to do anything like that. Etc!)

You can find most of the test content online. Much of it is pretty predictable. They could NEVER assess me anymore without bias. I know how to answer all questions either way at this point. :) Nothing to be afraid of. If you want a Dx just answer the way you know an autistic person is supposed to answer the question.

For me, she gave me a picture book with no words and I had to make up a story based on the pictures. Then she had me pick 5 random, little objects (without looking) out of a little bag and make up a story based off of them.

Wow--now I am really nervous. My current psych once tried role-playing on me (when she thought all I had was social anxiety), and all I could do was just sit there. We never played that again...... I have no idea how to do things like that. What are they looking for in the story? That you can actually put sentences together...or creativity? Maybe I am starting to overthink all of this. I just thought I was going to do a couple questionnaires; I didn't realize I would have to do this kind of stuff...... 8O

Also, just out of curiousity, do you actually get your score afterward in the report or just a diagnosis (or lack thereof)?

Have no idea. I just got it done on Tuesday and now have to wait for her to compile a report.

okay, another question for you (or anyone else): would you recommend for THIS type of assessment to take in my results from the AQ, Aspie test, etc?

I want the DX because I think I am autistic, but if I am not, then I don't want to pretend that I am just to get a diagnosis. :? For me, I don't know how an NT and an ASD will answer. I only know how I will answer, and I think no matter what I say it is going to wrong (wrong for NT, wrong for ASD, wrong for everything....)

Yes answer how you will answer, not how an NT will answer or an aspie, how you would answer.

Then don't come to this folder to "prepare". The POINT of the assesments is to find out what you know not what you can learn. If you go off and now "learn" how to make up stories, you will score more NT (for example)... Few of us can make up stories btw. There is no such thing as "wrong". You only score you on these sort of tests no other grades.

What folder?? I didn't come here to "prepare" (that is your word not mine). I came here to ask what I can expect, not how I can cheat the system! I think it is normal to feel a little nervous, but then what do I know since I am clearly not normal! I also did not ask to be taught how to tell stories. Again, I was only asking what to expect, and I don't see anything wrong with that!...! !! !!

Did not mean to imply you are doing anything "wrong" but your initial post read (to me) like you were wonder what was going to be on the test to some level of detail. Since you have already taken the AQ and some other tests I assumed you had some familiarity with what is involved in "testing" as they are all pretty much the same and predictable if you couple these tests with a good understanding of the DSM criteria. Testing in a shrink office is not a pass/fail or right/wrong thing so there is nothing to be nervous about. Of course we all get nervous but it is unfounded really unless you are seeking a specific diagnosis for services or some such thing. WRT ASD, it is especially futile to worry about testing since there is no one standardized way to assess an adult and I could go to four different shrinks test centers and come out with 4 different answers today. it really is pretty pointless near as I can tell unless you need it for services...

By finding out what's on the test, it kind of partially defeats the purpose of the test. Just go, do it, and see what happens. I refused to perform one part of the ADOS because I simply had no idea what to do. The encouraged me to "try," and I repeated that I had no idea. So, that was that. No big deal.
