I've spoken about my past before, but for those who don't know I left school two years ago during a time of depression and very major anxieties that have only recently been overcome.
Today I set foot in a high school for the first time since, and it was still very unnerving after having so many bad experiences associated with them in the past, and this was an achievement of sorts for me.

At this school was a unit dedicated to people with ASDs, and I was invited there by the teacher in charge to take a look around.
What I noticed about this place was that it was so much more accomodating for people on the spectrum. It seemed that understanding of the autistic spectrum was much better than it was when I was in school (a different one to this, I hasten to add). It also sounded like the students there were also much more accepting.

Unfortunately, this is not the case in many schools, and young people with ASDs are still being misinterpreted by staff and are being given unneccessarily hard rides through the education system just because they are different, and for some, consequences are severe and lasting.

Thanks for reading.

A big accomplishment, facing your fears and taking that step that gets you going moving forward with your life, I sincerely hope that your experience at your new school go well, and its awesome to hear that there are places, that take our differences into account. :)

Thanks for that. Let me clarify that I'm not starting at the new school, I was invited to chat to the teacher there and have her show me around. I've been schooled at home for the past two years, and will be moving on to sixth form college, hopefully, later this year (that's going to be my next big task).

That is wonderful! I wish there had been such accommodations for myself, back in my high school days.

It's great to hear that you've come out on the other side of that dark place and are taking steps forward. Good for you! I hope you find the school a good fit - it sounds like a great and rare opportunity.
