One interesting behaviour I found was that if there are paved pedestrian pathways, NTs will avoid grassy areas at all costs, even if the pedestrian pathway does not draw a straight line to where you want to go. This is true even when the grass is dry.

best friends getting together at a watering hole and engaging in a ruckus group photo.

That's because tramping through other people's grass is generally a no-no. Even when the grass isn't actually part of someone's lawn, the habit remains.

[where's the rolling loughter emoticon?] I was thinking the same thing geting back from the store a half hour ago. I noticed that the (already formed) pathway I was threading through the grass was entirely my making!

They beg for mercy when you torture them.

Uh ...

Did I say that out loud?

(sorry - a little dark humor there ...)

And as to the qustion,
I think that people who are more on the sheeply side function more on the basis of social acceptability then that of common logic and sensible utilitarianism.

As the poster above pointed, it's about respecting people's property. People can become very defensive about their property including the grass. Avoid it at all cost.

But your comment reminded me of a house mate I once had. He was a graduate student in Psychology, and now I think he was definitely on the Asperger's spectrum. In this house that we all live in, the owner had recently put in new tiles on the kitchen floors all by her self and had sealed off the area in order to let the cement fully dry. So she locked, the gates to the path leading to the kitchen, closed the door to the kitchen from the outside, and them move chairs and sofas blocking the path from the living room to the kitchen, in addition to a very large sign that said do not enter the kitchen.

So this guys comes home, sees the gate lock, the door lock, and the furniture blocking the path to the kitchen, so he moved the furniture out of the way and went into the kitchen, disturbing the fresh cement tiles, totally ruined the work that the owner had spent several days to accomplish. She was not too happy about that. This guy more than likely had Asperger's.

Apart from the fact that not all NTs do this, maybe the people that do are just trying to avoid wearing the grass down.

No, thats probably not the reason. For instance, NTs have no problem wearing the grass down if they suddenly decided to play soccer or ultimate frisbee (and I mean playing soccer in an area that is not specifically designated as a soccer field). I think they are just programmed to stay on the path and some of us aspies tend to get "super logical" about finding the path of least distance. I would say that it can be so extremely logical that it gets to a point of irrationality. Like you might just save a few seconds time. But hey, I'm just describing behaviour here.

But are the people who refuse to make cut-throughs and the people who play sports in these same grassy areas actually overlapping groups? Pay close attention to who plays sports on the grass and who stays on the path at all times. You might find that these are non-overlapping groups of people.

You may also find that in the cases where the two groups overlap, the cut-through areas don't; meaning that people will be willing to play sports in a field not labeled for sports because they figure a field doesn't count as a lawn because it isn't as carefully tended but they will still stick to the paths around a well-tended area.

Also, avoiding the pathless woods because they have little innate sense of direction. I explore, sometimes get lost, but always find my way back, all without any issues.

The ability of the NT to tell you one thing and do something else totally different-the ability to lie to your face and stab you in the back like it was nothing.

The way that NT girls and women will be nice to your face and then talk badly about you behind your back.

Don't pretend to like someone when you don't!
