…thieving is fine but won't outwardly say it.

I said that less time should be spent on victimless crimes and that more time should be spent on crimes against the person. (Theft of course being one of those.)

Thereby not getting me into a nasty confrontation with people I don't know and also saying my piece, albeit indirectly.

I could have gone the confrontation approach but by that time I was impaired by alcohol.

Thoughts?

If they think thievery is ok then steal something from them. Once it happens to them they won't think its ok. (I don't condone thivery) You might want to hide the thing from them instead of stealing it not telling them where you put it might be better. Try to get them on video saying thievery is ok then video tape them complaining about how they had something stolen. Funny stuff.

I was thinking in my head along the lines of "Can I have your wallet then? Since you don't think thieving should be punished, you won't mind if I take it. You can have mine once I've emptied it."

My opinion about this is person is keep an eye on them odds are they are thieving on a regular basis and they are only trying to rationalize what they are doing is to say its ok then trying to make others think that way too. They are just trying to make himself feel better about stealing. So keep an eye out for you wallet and cellphone.

I've never met them before. Perhaps I should stop drinking in pubs, meh.

I think they were trying to rationalise some kind of fraud of the welfare system in their heads.

Either way you should avoid them.

Done.

I don't suppose it would get through to them that, by abusing the welfare system in this way, it hurts people like me who need the help and don't deserve the discrimination and nastiness we get already. We already don't have an easy time of it and these people are helping to make things worse for us because we're all considered fakers. Especially those with neurological disorders but even physically disabled people get some awful treatment.

The only way they will no its wrong if someone says it is wrong. It would help if other people where there to agree with you. But if that person has lowered themselves to cheat the system odds are they could care less about what someone thinks about them. In America they have hot lines you can contact to snitch on welfare fraud even if they don't catch him in the act he will be on their radar as a welfare cheat. Follow the jackass with a video camera odds are they will slip up you can send in to get him busted. If you sit on a barstool (or a forum message board) complaining you are just a loud mouth bore but if you take action you are an activist doing good for the community and the truely disabled.

Often people that say "harmless thievery" is fine are the people doing the "harmless thievery". Most people tend to feel bad about stealing so they rationalise it differently to remove the guilt, like thinking that defrauding welfare is "ok" because that is "different".

That's what I thought - I didn't directly want to contradict them but did say my piece. I don't know who these people are and if they might follow me on my way home...

My parents grew up poor in West Virgina. Members of my mom's side of the family would say its alright to steal if its from a rich person who might not be hurt from what you take so long as you are doing it to put food on the table. But if you steal from another poor person you are adding to that person's misery therefore the worst type of criminal right up there with child molesters. My father's side of the family have the belief if you are too lazy to work for what you need then maybe it is better that you starve to death.

@ Tequila - I would love for an a**hole to follow me I carry mace and I am not above beating the s**t out of the person once they are blinded by the mace. Then I would call the police to call in an attempted robbery.

The other point is that Britain is corrupt - our own MPs are corrupt thieves and liars (look at the expenses scandal a few years ago). So if our OWN elected representatives think this behaviour is OK, what about the people?

Yeah, I don't like thievery. It's even worse if the thief rationalizes his/her behavior by saying, "I steal from the rich and give to the poor".

British people have been disarmed. Mace is illegal in the UK except for law enforcement purposes.

Use wasp spray. My youngest brother use to deliever medicine to pharmacies. One of his co-workers had some junky try to rob her delievery van so his co-worker could not get the guy out of threre truck so they grabbed the only thing she had in her truck a can of wasp spray. She sprayed a man twice her size in the eyes and mouth the guy's eyes closed shut and face swole up. The cops found him on the side of the road on all fours retching.

If you use it get the hell out of there. If a cop finds the spray can on you look the cop in the face and say you are autistic and have an un-natural fear of stinging insects.
