Sometimes Aspies are in their own world. They're unaware of the social world, what kind of person they are, and how people act. I used to be that way, but not anymore.

I am aware of things. I am aware there are things that I have no awareness of. I am aware that what I'm aware of is often quite different than what others are aware of. And I am aware that this different awareness creates problems for me.

I was like that a long, long time ago, but only to a very small extent these days.

I have become aware that I have missed a lot, and have resolved to try to pay better attention. So, yes.

Somewhat; however I've been told, a lot, that I'm often "in my own little world". This from my Mother, before, and now from my wife... :?

I find the question to be a little abstract for me to have put a vote, but I'd say that I'm aware of things... Not necessarily the things that we should be aware of though. Case in point; I'll know exactly how many light bulbs are burned out in a restaurant, but I might not notice if the place is being robbed while I'm busy figuring out what I want to order.

Huh? What's this keyboard doing here? I guess I'll type some letters. adsfjaklasdjkdas
I don't see the letters. Where's the monitor? Oh! *DUH* It's right in front of me.
Hey, there's a box that says Submit. I wonder what happens if I click it.

Does that answer your question?

What do you mean by "aware" ...? It's too broad of a word.

No, I'm not. I wish I was as to be honest it makes it dangerous for me to be on my own.

I can't be aware of what I'm not aware of, if I'm not aware of it.

Definitely. Me at 5, me at 12, and me today are completely different people:

5 - Very distracted and sensorily drawn, and ALWAYS distracted, daydreaming and on my own track.
12 - Found people threatening and avoided them as much as possible. Senses and own world fading, now have to get adjusted to the real world.
23 - Now fully immersed in the real world and comfortable around most people. Vivid senses only come back when I'm stoned (but surprisingly I retain my social skills)

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I'm going to quote this. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Awareness of the social world...

...I wouldn't know. I'm not aware of a lot of things, but how much I'm not aware of, who knows?

The only way that I become aware of things is if I take stimulants. Otherwise, I'm off in my own little world.
