I applied for my high school's news channel for my senior year. I passed, but the interviewing teacher asked me whether I had Asperger's or autism. Huh. I wonder how my senior year will go with that teacher.

It's no secret among teachers and students that I am in a special needs class. It isn't a special needs class per say, it just gives me extra help on assignments and dealing with school issues.

She didn't know that Asperger's is a form of autism. She automatically assumed that I am obsessed with repetition when I am not.

Yes. I just don't know if the teacher will know how to handle any problems that I face because she doesn't understand anything about autism.

I never said that she needs to know.

hehehehe... just say 'yes'.

Asperger's is autism and will officially be taken out of the DSM soon enough. You are on the spectrum - it's all she really needs to know.

Pfftt... I wouldn't be saying anything that could be unfairly used against you by a teacher with false conceptions of autism/aspergers. I'd only divulge it if it became later apparent that such a divulging would be useful for your aims.

Btw, I was on highschool TV broadcast at one time. I tried out the broadcaster position once and... they changed me out and I later settled into the video control technician spot.

Seriously (about Asperger's being taken out of the DSM)? Where will that leave people with a diagnosis of Asperger's?

It's now being renamed "Autism - Level 1". Level 4 is hardcore autism.

I don't want to ask you to go into a long-winded essay about how all the different levels are going to be defined and what they involve (unless you want to!), so instead, where can I get more information? ^.^

Looks like it only goes upto Level 3. But, on the other hand, level 4 would hypothetically be "really hardcore"... that is, soooo hardcore, it doesn't exist.

And, you're right, I wouldn't want to write an essay. My time is precious.

Technically, yeah, the new diagnoses are Autism Levels 1-3. However, I'm inclined to say that if you were diagnosed AS originally, you still have AS. It's like those who were originally diagnosed with ADD asking, "where will ADHD leave all the people with a diagnosis of ADD?".
