I'm not diagnosing her, but Lady Gaga has some traits.

I'm surprised nobody has ever brought this up so I'm going to, despite the number of people who get mad about diagnosing celebrities. Just to be clear, I'm not saying Gaga is on the Spectrum, but lets discuss some similarities between us and her that I get inspiration from. Here's a list of them in order of most obvious to least obvious.

#1) She's very obsessive This one inspires me because it's her obsessive nature, I believe, that led to her success. Because even though she is incredibly talented it was essentially her drive that got her this far. She's mainly obsessed with fame and fashion, but she's said on some interviews that she's currently obsessed with monster movies. Obviously her personality is just one that dwells on things.

#2) She often wears sunglasses during interviews This is just speculation but this could be because of a diversion to eye contact. It's pretty smart when you think about it. I've noticed she wears them when she seems particularly tired as well. Maybe too tired to pretend to make eye contact. I know the feeling.

#3) She listens to the same record for months She said this in an interview and it could be because of her obsessive personality, but it could also be a form of stimming, like it is for me.

#4) Unaffected by social norms This one is pretty self explanatory if you've ever seen her and I love her for it.

#5) She gets offended easily I've noticed she easily gets offended by people interviewing her. If she gets asked to explain herself she will get upset. She tells some reporters that she feels "pre-judged" by them.

#6) She was an outcast in school When she was in school she says she felt very much like an outsider. I know the feeling as well.

#7 She has a persona Alot of research has been done that shows many people on the spectrum will develop a sort of fake persona to socialize. A lot of times this persona will be accompanied by a prop to help them "get into character". For example the guy on Boston Legal would have to hold a cigarette in his hand to speak in front of a jury. Maybe her persona is Lady Gaga and her prop is all of the crazy s**t she wears. That would explain why she never leaves the house unless she's in full costume. This is probably the most far fetched of all the traits but it still can't be ignored.

So what do you guys think?

Well....to be 100% honest and with all due respect/no offense....I think I don't care.

About a month ago....I predicted someone would start a "Is Lady Gaga an Aspie"?
thread. I've had similar speculations to your own here, but the matter is too uninteresting
for me to invest much thought into.

While i'm personally not a fan of Gaga, I do think she's a very talented individual.

She seems like a decent enough human being as well. I just have a major problem with
celebrity culture in general. If anyone actually deserves the outrageous amount of money
these celebs usually make.... it certainly isn't them.

There are hundreds of thousands of homeless Vietnam Vets and millions of other people
in poverty in America. Given this fact...I become fairly infuriated by the fact that someone
can get on a stage with a microphone and make millions.

To avoid said fury....I must also avoid thinking about these celebs much.

I love Gaga... But I don't think she's on the spectrum. I just think she is naturally eccentric and artistically creative. She is very social when she is around people who accept her and respect her. And she IS Lady Gaga. That is her true personality. Her main pet peeve is when people think that she dresses and acts the way she does to get attention. That IS her, and it is not a persona. I will say that it makes me happy that somebody regarded as "weird" gets so much media attention today. I like how she sends the message to her fans to be yourself.

Very interesting! And you make a 'good case.' But, hard to say.

She could be a Type A 'driven' personality as well, or even a Narcissist, since most of her emphasis is on superficial things. Narcissists sometimes have some of the same traits (and many different) as AS.

My pet theory on her is that someone else styles her and that she's mostly style.

I think Lady Gaga is just a plain old wackjob.

It isn't surprising that a "right-wing gun nut" feels this way about her.

So sorry....I couldn't resist

I really don't think she is. While some of those may show a possibility, I highly doubt it. Bear in mind how unbelievably active she is, as far as the social scene. She's always the center of attention. Honestly, I can't see people the center of attention the way she puts herself and being an Aspie. I could be wrong, but I HIGHLY doubt it.

GaGa romps in the same tradition as Lena Lovich, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Cyndi Lauper, Cher, Nina Hagen, Grace Jones, Souixie Souix.

I know that's her pet peeve and I'm not even saying she does it for attention. Maybe persona is the wrong word. Before she was famous she never dressed like that so I think either it was just a lack of money or she hadn't discovered herself yet. I think it's the latter because she always talks about fashion not needing to be expensive. My thought was that it's a way of giving herself confidence to socialize. Similar to the way some aspies will carry around an object they are attached to. I mean it is far fetched but like I said, I'm not diagnosing her, just comparing her.

Actually now that I think about it, she contradicts herself a lot. Someone asked her once what she would say to the people who say the way she dresses is all about shocking people. She answered, " Well I would say they were right." Then she also says what you said, that she doesn't do it for attention. Personally I really do think it's a persona but maybe she doesn't realize it.

I don't think you can actually knoiw who Lady gaga is?

All singers put on this big elaborate 'look at me, I'm so weird' persona. They need some kind of shock value so people talk about them.

I would say the person who plays lady gaga is nothing like lady gaga in real life. Its all a show for shock value.

I'm surprised anyone still knows who Lene Lovich and Nina Hagen are.

I remember Lovich's "lucky number" song was a bit hit among
Avant-garde crowd in like 1980.

Really the main focus for me is that she inspires me to be proud of my weirdness. Whether or not it's a persona or really her. The person in the media I know as Lady Gaga is obsessive, weird, driven, and speaks in a monotone voice (HA! there's another one, monotone voice) yet she is still one of the most popular musical artists right now. It's inspiring to me that there is a place for someone like her. So maybe there is a similar place for someone like me.

Two more that remind me of Gaga - Christina Aguilera and Dale Bozzio. All these people have found their eccentric niche in music so it's possible to just be yourself and find success in life, especially if you fancy the arts.

The shock value thing has become the most yawn-worthy thing in the
world.

It's all now just a tiresome variation on someone else's theme.

Much like the holocaust seemed to be final word on man's inhumanity to man, i'd
say an "artist" like GG Allin was the final word on the shock value of people in
the entertainment industry.

Allin was probably a sociopath and not a very bright one, so alot
of his "shock value" occured by default.
