Well, define normal...
I have noticed that in relaxed, comfortable situations a lot of us don't seem to have AS at all, though put in different situations, it is clear as day.

If you bother much with the self-perception of being normal or abnormal then you lose brain cells and parts of your brain that makes up the mind alters. The prognosis of this kind of self-perception disorder in occasional focus or in extreme cases hyper-focus is the potential of anxiety related disorders. The outcome with proper treatment is indifference and a failure to bother to comb ones hair like Einstein.

It really depends on the person. In a lot of ways, I am normal. In fact, people hardly ever realize that I have autism they first time they meet me.

Some people here may be bothered because they like the fact that they have a difference and are proud of it, but I'm not, and actually I agree with you on some level. As I said, it depends on the person.

Well they are not dumb that don't understand what's going around them. They like the same things as NT's and they know the world around them.

That's a very generalised statement to say that all LD (MR) and low functioning autistics are dumb and don't know the world around them. A lot of people with low functioning autism are very aware of the things going on around them but cannot communicate in a way that others understand. This does not make them dumb, just disabled.

This is a Youtube video about Carly Fleischmann, a severely autistic girl who has learnt to communicate using a keyboard. I suggest you watch it and educate yourself.

I totally agree with you, but I started a thread about this exact same thing and nobody agreed with me and it sounded like lots of people on here hated me, and it caused lots of bickering, and here's the link: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt139366.html

But whatever thread I start it causes bickering, so it might not be the actual topic. It might just be that Aspies and NTs go against whatever I say because I'm a hated person.

I like some of the things NT's like, but for the most part I have little or no intrest in things most NT's do and like. I get along well with the odd NT's but yeah that is because though they are 'normal' mentally they still do not like society so much.

dont comb hair: check Indifference: for the most part check.

Lets do a quiz on how many aspies dont comb their hair. Personally i think its just plain weird that people actually put glue in their hair every morning, i gues thats good for hair product companies though.

People who have too low of self esteem and get treated poorly often by people are not going to be convinced they are normal.

My parents used to tell me all the time I was normal but I never believed it because I had low self esteem about myself and I was treated different at school so how did that make me normal?

Well I don't know that low self esteem alone causes it.........but I was also treated differently, in that I was the one people usually ganged up on to pick on. Also I find it to be rather in-correct to just state the only ones who are actually different from NTs are mentally ret*d or worse without providing some sort of evidence that points to this.

I get treated differently everywhere I go - even on WP where nobody even knows me. If I start a thread about Aspies being normal, I'm offending everyone. If somebody else starts a thread about Aspies being normal, people just give their personal opinions without no bickering. So I can't believe my ''I'm a mug'' vibes get visible on the internet too. Didn't think that was possible.
It happens in the NT world too. At my volunteer job. If somebody breaks a social rule, it's OK, but if I break a trivial rule, I get my head bitten off. It just does not seem fair.

So I can't be normal, if people treat me like I'm not. So you're right there.
