Doomed is such a terrible word.

Doomed do what? Eternal damnation?

I can't indulge in such a negative self perception. I know I've got issues that many people don't have. Oh well. Sometimes I just have to get on with it and not feel too sorry for myself. It's not like there is some deep existential consequences, some overarching unfulfilled destiny, or the world is waiting on me to save it.

I'm just a dude with autism.

No.

There's been some pretty s**t points in my life, there have been some damn awesome ones. Some have been related to Autism, some haven't. I think there are so many other factors (your attitude, natural skillset etc) that matter /so much/ more than whether you're Autistic and NT. I think the real shame is just giving up. (Of course, this isn't undermining the difficulties of Autism - it's incredibly difficult to live with at times, but you gotta try!)

Having learned I am never going to "win" within any dog-eat-dog, rat-race kind of life, I would say about the same. Some of my lowest moments or points in life have even been tragic all around, and yet some of my best have been irreplaceable. Overall, however, my AS/HFA has played a part in both, and it has even helped me ignore the rest of the world at times and make good use of even my worst moments.

Well, I'll give you the answer you want to hear: YES! We are all going to die! That's what December 21st, 2012 is. In case you didn't know, the Mayan calendar ends on that date because people with autism are all going to hell on that day, and after that point the world will forever live in peace.

You seem like you've already made up your mind that we're "doomed" so what does it matter what we think.

What does doomed mean? doomed to extinction? doomed to an unhappy life? All that seems to be improving, today we actually have supports in place, 20 years ago you were totally f**ked if you had aspergers.

Actually most people refer to ret*d as ret*d only ignorant people would confuse autism and mental retardation, because they know absolutely nothing. I mean come on I am sure some people have autism and mental retardation that does not mean they are the same thing.

And I don't know that we are doomed....maybe but, Im not going to concern myself with that.

I don't think we are doomed. There might not ever be a cure for autism, but we should attempt to make the lives of those living with autism a little easier. Let's make the condition more aware of, etc. That's my take.

With the increasing uselessness of social security, it seems pretty fair to say autistics are doomed.

No. I like being an aspie. If there were a cure I wouldn't take it. I don't see anything really bad about it.

WE'RE DOOOOOOOOOOMED!

I think I'll go with being doomed because 'doom' is such an awesome word. It was also a good computer game at the time it came out.

Other than those factors, nah I don't think we're doomed.

Autistic or not, we are all doomed.

I'm not doomed!

All you do is adapt your Aspergers means you adapt your tactics and starategies to exploit your strengths and minimise your weakness!

Christ, cheer up and fight back!

No, it isn't. Autism has only recently come to the public's attention, so there's plenty of time for scientists to find out about it.
