lol... but anyway, whenever you take self-photos, do you look at the camera? How about when friends take photos, do you look at the person or the camera? Or do your eyes wonder because you can't show eye contact?

I notice when I take self portraits, or friends and family take photos, I'm looking away from the camera. If I look at the camera I either can't keep my focus there longer or I hate looking at the camera... I find that if I look away, my pictures come out better and also cuter. (see my icon)

I ask because I just wonder about aspies and eye contact when it comes to cameras.

I have a very hard time looking at the camera when I'm getting my picture taken.

I can look at the camera when I'm taking pictures of myself, I think it's kind of like how I can look at my own eyes in the mirror.

I can look at the camera when others are taking pictures, though I hate posing for photos. It's uncomfortable. I don't look directly at the camera or the person taking the picture, but I look in that direction. If someone was going to take pictures of me I'd rather it be candid, even if that means I risk looking stupid.

I took a film class where we were taught to act to the camera, but direct our gaze just to the side of it. Whoever was reading the other person's lines would stand just behind to the left or right of the camera and we were supposed to look at them. When you're acting for film you're not supposed to look at the camera, it ruins the illusion.

Yeah, I hate getting my picture taken, and if I smile it usually looks fake and stupid (I don't smile much, sometimes you can get a half-smile from me). I also have a lazy eye, so whether someone else takes my picture or I do, I turn my head to the side so that it's easier for me to look at the camera. I think I do a better job at taking my picture because if someone else takes it I also look like I have a double chin, but everyone around me says that I don't know what I'm talking about. Obviously I'm pretty insecure about my looks, plus the camera always adds 10 pounds. I use my clothes, bright hairdye and lots of jewelry to take attention away from my face and my other flaws.

When it comes to self portraits, I ask someone else to take the picture for me. I've never had trouble looking at the camera, but I'm not good at posing (it needs to be a "natural" smile)

I enjoy photography as a hobby, but I rarely take posted pictures - most of my "people" shots are candid without the flash (though with the big DSLR, people know I have the camera)

That's the same with me. I always make a silly smile, or kind of an odd smile... as you can see in my icon. I like to look away from the camera but I feel more comfortable taking my own photos than others take photos of me. I like to pose for my own pictures... kind of like I am my own model.

Yeah, lol, I usually look like I have buckteeth when I smile, even though my teeth are pretty straight. Probably from all the teeth gritting I do (chewing gum helps with that a little). I'm trying to work on my self esteem. What I realize if that you have more self-confidence, that automatically makes you more attractive. That means accepting your flaws which are probably not as bad as you think, and ignore the a******s that try to bring you down, and focus on the good things about yourself, and that also includes things besides your looks. And work on improving areas in your life that you are less than happy about. (Still trying to take that advice myself)

Smiling BIIIG! for the camera is pretentious BS. Unless you are actually super happy, then why fake it?

I don't like having pictures taken of me, period. That means I don't even take pictures of myself. I'm not someone whose eyes look in the direction of the lens as photos are taken. During group pictures, I'm the only person whose eyes aren't looking straight at the camera. As for smiling when told to do so, forget it - I see no point in pretending to be happy unless I'm actually happy at the moment.

By the way, you look nice in that photo.

What I was trying to say earlier is that happy people (genuinely happy, not the fake, super-cheerful kind) tend to be more attractive. Being unhappy all the time tends to bring a permanent frown to people's faces (at least on my face) which tends them to look like ugly miserable ghosts and you age faster because of all the damage done to your facial muscles because of all the frowning. Then when they try to smile it almost looks painful for them, probably because they are not used to smiling.

Absolutely. Not only that, but being unhappy lends itself to stress, which really kills your pheromones and messes up the elasticity of your skin.

I don't show my teeth when I smile. I am ashamed and embarrassed of my teeth because they look really awful. I hated brushing them and at the time, I still did it but then when I got braces, I had a hard time caring for my teeth and the braces made them worse for both my teeth and me being autistic... because of the sensory issues. I never smile and show my teeth because I hate when people remark saying, "ewwwww your teeth are gross". WHen they don't understand the reason why they are like that.

I don't have a huge problem with having photos taken, per say... but I always blink when the flash goes off. Looking away from the camera helps me keep my eyes open, but it's a struggle. So a lot of my photos either have no flash or have me looking away. Only my mom is able to take photos of me where I'm actually looking at the camera.

I do hate the flash from the camera. So I look away to prevent my eyes from blinking or causing a sensory issue.
