So proud of myself. Today, I went to my friends college graduation. It was a lot of fun and I was glad to go and support him. I did not have any worries about going at all. I enjoyed it and even dealt with the crowds okay.

Then, later, we (me and my Mom) started to walk back to where the cars were. We took an odd route, so we asked a man in a suit nearby. He told us where to go, and then said, "you know what? I'll walk with you."

We all got to talking, and I felt very at ease. She said we were here to support a friend with Asperger's Graduating. He said his 9 year old son has AS! and we all got to talking about that and how hard it is, and how he's worried about middle school. Mom told him I have AS and I did not feel embarrassed. I told him I have worked very very hard (and I have, particularly over the past 3 years).

Then, and this is rather big for me, I turned to him and I said "And what is your name?" and I shook his hand! and then he said "and what is your name?" (or to that effect) and I told him mine! and mom was so surprised (because I have never done that ever, especially with an older adult, or conversed so freely) she forgot to say her name, so i said "and this is Insertmomsnamehere!"

So simple for others, but very big for me! I am so proud of myself, and proud of myself for feeling proud for my friend. :D

Just thought I'd Share.

I am very proud of you. That sounds that it should be difficult but I am proud that you were able to do that. And I know your mom will probably be very proud of you also.

Well done!

I also get quite excited when I get little social things right. Last night I walked right up to a musician who had just performed, and complimented her on her music, which was well received, then I bought a coffee and made small talk with the staff behind the bar, just for a minute or two. I was getting quite stressed out after the first couple of sentences, but I managed to escape before my mind went blank.

That is great news!

I myself am slowly overcoming everyday things that people take for granted. Most people if they were in my shoes I guarantee would have given up long ago!

Now you have something to build upon :)

I once complimented a waitress on her sleeve. Some people will know what I am talking about.

Congrats! I know how you feel. I've had several of those moments over the past couple of years since I have "come out of my shell" and it is wonderful.

I'm also very proud of you. I'm proud that you were brave enough to say that you have AS as well. :)

Congrats! Moments like this are great, aren't they? Keep trying, I've found social situations like that get a little less awkward the more you do it.

Congratulations! :) Glad you were able to feel at ease and even enjoy yourself. Hopefully there will be many more successes for you down the road.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

This may not be a big step to many of you, As a result of a meltdown on my part Thursday where I expressed envy that she had time to follow her special interest but I did not have time to complete my overdue commissions, let alone finish making a new pair summer moccasins, we came to an agreement, and this Saturday just gone, I allowed my wife to plan and cook the evening meal.
Apart from one minor transgression on my part (I took the roast chicken out when it was cooked) (Ok two, if you count sneakily washing some of the dishes before they went into the dish washer) I didn’t interfere at all. My wife was quite shocked; I’m supposed to allow her to do it again this coming weekend.
