Have you ever had a moment when you just want to say something but for some reason you can't come up with a single word?

Lately, then yes a lot of the time. I make a lot of effort to ‘join in’ with conversations, but after struggling to find the point at which I can join in the flow of conversation, I try, only for someone who had stopped speaking to start talking after I’ve joined in but have hardly said a few words. The aforementioned person then carries on talking over me as if I do not exist.
I am finding it hard to even attempt to join in; the effort is mostly not worth it. I think about speaking but just cannot find the word to use to start; knowing that half of what I say will not be heard or listened to by most of the people in the room.

All the time. There's a lot I would love to say but putting them into words is a major hindrance for me. I have what you'd call a slight disability in the semantics and pragmatics of the written and spoken language.

I hardly ever know what to say when I'm in a conversation because conversations are really hard for me. :(

I've gotten very good at saying 'nothing', but when I want to communicate something important to me it can get really hard.

As the poster above already mentioned, I try to join in conversations but I always wind up saying something at just the wrong time, and someone else will begin talking at the same moment, and talk right over me. But one on one I can often maintain an ordinary conversation so long as we have something in common and can discuss that.

This I can definitely relate to, well when it comes to the important things especially when its a face i'm not very familiar with but i'm already getting there massively, back in the days it seemed almost impossible.

I think I'm considerably better at letter or e-mail conversations than at 'real-time' conversations. Reaching for a particular word or trying to 'keep up' with a verbal conversation (at least when it's with NT's) is often a tremendous struggle. If it's important enough and/or possible, I will try switching communicative 'formats' so that I might not be quite so disadvantaged. Almost everyone who's interacted verbally with me (and has had the opportunity to read my 'papers' or other text) has shown great surprise (often leading into denial/resistance of that particular reality) that I'm not as well-spoken as I am well-written. ...Go figure

I'm like this with my passionate ideas, that are still forming into a kind of thesis.

Usually I'm still struggling with the meaning and relevance, and will only put it out into words when I have grasped its wider meaning.

As it continues to take shape, it moves from the back of my head to the front, and finally out of my mouth

or bum as the case may be!

welcome back superboyian!

Actually, when I have something to say, I have no problem coming up with the words. My problem is convincing myself that my words won't seem stupid and/or offensive. Social anxiety: the feeling that, no matter how good you are with words, you are not good enough.

P.S.: Of course, when I'm not anxious, I'm hyperactive and immature, so, I wonder which is worse.
P.P.S.: Also, I wonder if my use of commas is correct for the English language.
