I think that we are focusing way to much on the cause of autism. Everything causes autism according to the media.

I think it is good to know. If scientists find out where it comes from maybe they will be able to understand how it works and why, and maybe they will be able to help a lot if Autistic people. Some Autistic people are Ok, but some other people need and want help.

I don't think that it's important at all. I feel that the acceptance of all people is more important.

I suspect if they find out what the cause is they would try to prevent autism from forming; like if they find out it's genetic they will encourage people to get tested for the gene before having kids ect. Instead of focusing on the cause; they should be trying to better understand how autism affects people & how to better bridge understanding between autistics & NTs

I think we already know a lot about the cause of autism. Digging through the genetics might help some people, but I think we're overly focused on it to the exclusion of learning how autistic brains work and how best to educate our autistic children.

Replace 'autism' with 'cancer' - the media do latch onto everything, but that's because they're so much research going on to try to understand the cause, because as with everything else knowledge is power - I think saying 'everything causes x according to the media' is dismissive and flippant of the issues involved, as well as in turn making people dismissive of autism in general.

I think the cause of autism is vitally important - it gives us the power to say that autism and asperger's are real, and in turn gives us more power in demanding fair treatment from the rest of the world, it also means a better understanding of autism so we can get the support we need and help to manage the less favourable aspects of autism such as anxiety and depression. Cause also leads to cure, although many of us would not want a cure for some a cure is an end to torture or the birth into the world.
