Smoking maybe a reason for autism!!

Hi. i want to say here smoking can be a source for autism, i found a result in google:"Smoking during early pregnancy could increase a child's risk of developing autism by 40%, say scientists" so it maybe relates to mothers smoking. if this is true it can help to cure of autism. do you think like me? so please say here did your parents smoke ever(both of them or at least mother) or may your grandparents. about myself i never saw parents smoke, but i heared a little talk about cigarretes. excuse me if English is bad.

Well, huh. My mother smoked when she was pregnant with me. Smoking is also linked to increased likelihood of ADHD, for that matter.

My husband and I do not smoke and never have - our daughter is an Aspie.

what about grandparents? ,may autism come from them. i saw a documentary movie that showed a child had autism and after they noticed it, they also noticed childs grandfather has aspereger. may autism resulted from grandfather

My maternal grandparents smoked, but I do not know if there was any smoking during pregnancy.

I know nothing about my paternal grandparents' habits.

What a lot of nonsense. Does that mean that if my mum was partial to Twix that I'll love them myself in real life.

Of those people who smoke, you're going to get some babies that are autistic, some babies that are Down's, some babies that are dyslexic bit you will also get a lot of fit, healthy, normal babies too. Just like under most other circumstances.

My dad smoked while my mom was pregnant with me, but never in their apartment or never when my mom and him were in the same room.

I type this twenty plus years later and I'm on the spectrum.

Has there been a study to find out what environmental toxins cause children to be born neurotypical? Or worse, cause an autistic child developing normally to suddenly veer onto the course of plethism at age two or three?

My mother stopped smoking for the time of pregnancy after she realized it.

This is the utmost bollocks. It sounds like something straight out of the Daily Mail.

Neither of my parents smoked while my mother was pregnant and the last time my father smoked at all was about 15 years before I was born.
My father is also an aspie, and his mother has never smoked.

On the other hand, my cousin is an aspie, and his mother did smoke, though he has 2 NT siblings as well.

My mom doesn't smoke, but my dad does occasionally.

^^^ This. My Mum stopped smoking when she found out she was pregnant and my Dad had to smoke outside. Once I was born they both quit. I'm the first child and the only one on the spectrum. But I don't think there is a link between smoking and autism, at any rate anecdotal evidence is not enough to determine this.

Although smoking is known to be bad for babies, I highly doubt it is the cause of autism. Plus my parents didn't smoke when carrying me or my brother and I've got AS/Tourettes syndrome and my brother has AD/HD. I'm not saying that smoking isn't damaging though because I had a friend who's Mum and Dad smoked throughout pregnancy and she had severe asthma and hayfever amongst many other allergies and health complaints. She also had a poor immune system.
