He may have had something interesting to say but I'll never know because I found his accent incredibly distracting. My brain hears the words but can't process the meaning in such situations.

You mean the man or the boy?

Really? I found him to have an accent relatively similar to my own, and my accent is pretty standard American. I don't doubt you, but I'm surprised by that.

I did find the kid hard to understand, though.

Seconded.

The man.

I don't usually have a problem with American accents but the man in the video has a curious way of speaking - a very quick rise and fall in the tone. I do have problems following what people say (some kind of auditory processing disorder I suppose) and all it takes is something a little odd to throw me off. Like I said, I hear the words but cannot make any sense of the overall content. Even when the accent is not strange I will often find that what people say to me is like a stream of gibberish, hence my difficulties following instructions and needing them repeated.

I wonder how most people would cope understanding Rab C Nesbitt?

That was really good. Thanks for sharing :)

nemorosa, I understand Rab C Nesbitt, but I know what you mean. I used to have to ask people to repeat themselves a lot, including my family. It's rarely a problem now though.

I enjoyed that video and that kid is pretty cute. :) I loved the alphabet.

RE: Accents: I am assuming you are referring to the Man and not the kid. It's odd, because I found (the adult) him crystal clear, but I am sure that's not only because I am American, but also because I have heard (and lived around) so many varying dialects here in the US that I am used to them. He does have a slight inflection to his voice, but he does not speak with the true American English 'accent.' I am in the Mid-West, and we are supposed to have the purest form of the language here, but I don't know. "Mid-West" is a pretty large area, and there are varying accents just within this state I live in (let alone the region). I am trying to place where I have heard it from, but what I am thinking is out west. He has training in his voice (public speaking). Ironically, I have also heard Canadians sound like him. I need to look at his profile and see where he is from. :)
