can't concentrate - too distracted in front of computer
Hi there,
the whole week I am sitting in front of my computer and want to read and learn some stuff included in PDF files. But I just can't concentrate on it, though actually I would like to learn it. But in front of the computer I just click here and click there, then get some thought to surf there, go to facebook, wrongplanet, news sites, etc. And this lasts for hours, until the day is over.
This is frustrating, and i don't know why, ... usually I could concenctrate much better and it never too so long to be distracted. Only when I was depressed it was like that, but actually I think I just recovered from depressions...mmm... I don't get that.
thanks for any help,
anton
I find writing my own notes on what I am studying to be helpful, using different coloured pens also helps my recall. Have you tried using 'Mind Maps', made famous by Tony Buzan, as an aid to recall? Studying for long periods can be detrimental to recall. I try to limit myself to 50 minutes studying, and then taking a break, away from the computer, or books.

It's sounds like you may have ADHD. I have it and what you describe sounds just like me. I struggle to concentrate on a topic which I'm not super interested in and start doing other things instead without even realizing what I'm doing. If I have to study for something then I have to sit in a quiet room with no tv, phone or computer, and maybe someone close by to keep an eye On me to make sure I don't get distracted.
I also read somewhere that about 65% of people with aspergers also have ADHD so it's quite common. It also doesn't help that there so many distractions around now. My house was definitely a lot cleaner before Facebook came around haha
I was diagnosed with ADHD last month and put on Ritalin and I can't believe the difference it's made in my life. I'm more focused and less forgetful and confused everyone said it's like I'm a different person.
