Social interaction - capability and suffering

Do you have to suffer from your lack of social skills to be on the spectrum? What if you're just fine with the friends you've made through shared interests and hobbies?

Similarly, do you have to be incapable of interacting socially in a "normal" manner to be on the spectrum? What if doing so requires conscious effort, but is possible if you are willing to bear a certain level of discomfort and stress, as if you were "playing normal" in a play that nobody else knew they were watching?
