I found a thread discussing Aspies and loud music and experiences seemed to vary but I'm interested in a little more specificity.

I am generally hypersensitive to sound but especially to multiple people talking, generally chaotic audio environments, high pitched noise, sudden loud sounds, rattling, and other people's music. What volume of music I can tolerate, if I can tolerate it at all, depends on the music and situation.

But I do listen to death metal on specific occasions. I blast it. It is the only music I blast. It kind of saturates my body the bone. It provides an emotional and physical release. Music in general has a very strong effect on me. I drop on the headphones and get lost in it.

Anyone else hypersensitive to sound but still blast music?

I would say I'm pretty hypersensitive to sound, but I love to listen to loud music, as long as I have control over it. I have bad days and better days with my noise sensitivities. On bad days I can't stand any loud or sudden noise at all, and on better days I can "tolerate" the noise but it still hurts like heck (keeping in mind that my "better" days are very rare, but kinds of nice). My theory for why I like to listen to loud music is because music is different from other sounds. You almost always know what is going to come next in a song (so it's not always sudden), and it is just a better noise than say, a fire alarm overall. Music is a different noise, and it's a more beautiful noise. That's my guess anyway. :D

I am somewhat hypersensitive. I can't stand listening to loud music; I need the volume low.

When the sound is anything above about 90 decibels (lower if "high pitched"), then I might have to cover my ears.

Being in the NY City Subway was excruciating for me at times as a child.

Other people's music especially drives me insane, particularly if it is base heavy (which is unfortunately most things that people listen to). My own I sometimes listen to loudly, but usually especially if it's headphones, it's on the lowest settings. I can't stand when I can hear someone else's music even when they are supposedly using headphones!

Other noises are just about any noise my neighbors make (TV, loud talking, video games, snoring, etc...), and also artillery when the local army base is doing drills.

I am hypersensitive to certain kinds of sounds; anything that is very loud, but also specifically "human-generated" sounds, where the human is actively involved in making the noise. This includes chewing, coughing, snuffling, whistling, rustling sweet wrappers, revving up engines on motorbikes, cars, leafblowers... I don't mind mechanical noises where a human is not intervening (like a clock ticking, or a distant sound of a steadily running engine), but it drives me absolutely crazy when a human is generating an "unnecessary" noise of any sort.
