I was just wondering if anyone (or you know someone who has) ever took it, why, and did it do anything for you? An Aspergers child I know has been prescribed Intuniv for his meltdowns, and I'm not exactly buying that it will work since it seems to be geared to ADHD, though I feel better that it's a non-stimulant. Anyway, please volunteer info you think might be relevant, and I will read monologues if you got them :D

My son is ADHD and takes intuniv. It works wonders for him. But like you said. It's generally for ADHD. I'm not sure what benefits it would provide for aspergers. It did cut back on the intensity of his meltdowns.

We also tried Focalin for my son. It was absolutley horrible. It just made his OCD really really bad. I guess you could argue it worked too well and made him focus way too much.

Thank you for your post. After a week being on the meds, he started to experience the drowsiness side effect, and that increased his meltdowns and the intensity of them. So finally his mother and grandmother finally listened to the autistic person (me) and started to take him off the medication. They really weren't aware that it was specifically for ADHD people until I googled it. How they can find the time to google the name of a celebrity but not a pill is beyond me.

My 5yo has high functioning ASD an is on Intuniv. He went through the stage of drowsiness but it passed. Each time to up the dose it happens. He was having trouble getting on an even dosage for the longest time because he was CHEWING it...but once I got him to swallow the pill it evened out and started helping. I finally got him to swallow by laying on his back and putting it in a heaping spoonful of applesauce, while I held the spoon between his teeth to teach him to just swallow without chewing.

I've never been on Intuniv, but I have taken guanfacine, which is what the active ingredient in Intuniv is. Even though the lowest dose made me too sleepy to function, it dramatically decreased my hyperactivity. But the drowsiness was too much of a side effect to tolerate so I quit taking the guanfacine after one week.
