A few weeks ago, I started a topic labeled "A Letter to my Father." In the midst of its contents, I told him how I felt when I was around him, and how having Aspergers isn't going to change if he keeps treating me the way he does. He hasn't replied yet, and he wont answer the phone when I try to call him. I'm worried he doesn't even care about how I feel. My sister says when she goes over to his house, he doesn't even mention me. It's as if I don't exist.

Anyone have any advice? Or opinions? I need something.

I'm not sure that I have much that would be helpful to say. At 40 years old, I am in a similar spot with my parents. It just is what it is. Try not to let his (or anyone else's for that matter) attitude toward you dictate how you feel about yourself and your place in the world. You deserve to take up space and have a happy life. Best of luck!

I'm sorry to hear that. He's missing out on a relationship with a good person.

My opinion is that he sounds like an a**hole.

That's not very constructive, but it's the best I can do. :(

Turnabout is fair play ...

Since he seems to act as if you don't exist, consider him dead and move on with your own life.

Well, at least he's ignoring you. It seems to me like that's a nice step forward.

It's only been a few days correct? Give him some time. A lot of people struggle with heartfelt things like this that touch on many sensitive things.

It's impossible to know what a person means by not communicating. It could be anything from his having put it aside to read later and forgotten about it, to his figuring out how to reply, or being angry about it, or not realizing how important it was, or any number of things. Better not second-guess until you have more info. If a few more days go by, contact him again and ask what he thought about the letter.
