I often worry about my expression. English is not my first language and sometimes I just think words can destroy so much. Sometimes I just tend to write too honestly or not clear enough and I think my words can be misunderstood then.
The meaning of words is a sensitive thing. They can make you lucky but they also can make you hurt. I often worry if people understand me wrong, I have a lot problems with putting thoughts in words and sometimes it comes out wrong. It's especially if I talk about how I feel or in general if I try to explain something about myself.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

Yes, I have this problem. I think this is not uncommon with neurological disorders. Thought to word expression seems to be something I struggle with some days, while other days I'm very fluid. It is frustrating. My neurologist suggests practice as the best way to deal with this. Good luck. I hate being misunderstood especially because when people get the wrong idea, they usually think I'm saying something bad.

Yeah right. It's different from day to day. Afterwards I think it could be interpreted wrong then I try to put it right. That makes it look somehow like an excuse or something and if there are already misunderstandings it's so hard to explain and put it right.

Yes, like you're making an excuse. I hate that.

Also, I think part of this is because NTs read more into words than the words themselves so they come up with strange ideas and interpretations. It's very frustrating. On those days, I have started telling people that I struggle with words so please be patient. This has helped.

Yes, I have the same problem. English is not my first language either, but that's not the problem. I also have problems communicating in Spanish, specially when it comes to feelings. That's why I do not like to write about my feelings. But when it comes to "talk" about them the problem is worst. I just cannot. It takes a lot of time and sometimes I feel I fell short. Communication is not easy... in any language. I can talk about anything else: the weather, my work, my family, general topics without problem.

FWIW, your post is very clear to me, especially considering English isn't your native language. Many life long speakers can't write as well.

But i agree. I torture myself over being precise. Then people misunderstand anyway.

Fallen Angel,

I noticed that you are in Germany, So Ich denke dass Deutsch Ihre erste Sprache ist. You seem to do fine with English. Your WORST problem may be that if you DO make a mistake someone may treat you like an English speaker that has made some REALLY big mistake. Some people just stand out as FOREIGN! You DON'T!

EVERYONE makes mistakes. Even GERMANS make some big mistakes with some german phrases that you wouldn't expect. So you shouldn't feel too badly about it.

That said, I had a job a few months ago, and it was cut short in part because I said something that was taken the wrong way. She could have read the next statement, and/or the context, and SEEN what I meant, but she read ONE admittedly poorly written statement.

Being too honest is an AS symptom. I used to be FAR more honest in that regard, but I am still more honest than many would like.

I find it to be rather annoying when I say what I mean, but everyone thinks that I mean something totally different, even though that's not what I said. Seriously, why are we the disabled ones?

And your English is very good. I had no trouble reading and understanding it the first time, which is surprising, many native English speakers can't even post a message on a forum in readable terms.

I was pretty surprised when my therapist admitted that she was impaired in reading me, rather than saying I was impaired in giving her signals.

Over time, she's started asking me to explain what I mean rather than immediately assume and such.

Otherwise, this is one of the many stories of my life.
