If you usually eat just one plate and take a second, say, once a week, your answer to the poll should be "no". My question is: does any of you take seconds more often than not? The reason I am asking this is that, back when I was 10-14, taking a second would be ordinary part of the meal. In fact, if I "didn't" take a second my parents would wonder if something happened. And just to clarify: no one tried to perswade me to take seconds. It was my normal apetite that made me WANT to do it. But right now, as an adult, I rarely take seconds if ever. How about you guys? Do you guys take seconds?

I do take seconds and always have. The reason for this, I think, is because--well now it is part habit too--but my whole family usually went back for seconds my entire time growing up. I also do not know how to identify hunger and fullness (unless I am very starving or so full I am sick), so if it is put in front of me, I tend to eat until it is gone. Then, since we all go for seconds, I do the same with the second plate as well. I would be fine with one plate, I'm sure. If someone put a plate of food in front of me and said this will fill you, I probably wouldn't ask for seconds. That has never happened though, and I cannot regulate it myself.

Sometimes I can't even eat one plate full, much less two. But my stomach is far more sensitive than the average person. I have to be careful or I get sick every time I eat too much.

There was not much food in my house as a kid, so I was in good shape if I got firsts. Heh. As an adult, I am mostly a grazer. I prefer to eat a little here and there throughout the day. I could not imagine sitting down to a giant plate of food and then having to choke down more. I'm not a food person. That sounds awful to me.

Well, my parents often don't serve a whole meal to me at once, they serve 75% of it and give me the other 25%.

I actually eat less than most people.

Hmmm, difficult to answer. I don't take seconds that often today (usually when my mother or father prepares some delicious food for the weekends, I see them regularly), but eat much of many different dishes and foods. My colleagues think I eat too much, too often, and too long. :D

I can't answer your poll properly, because it was in my 2nd to 5th grade when I regularly asked for a second at the school cafeteria that didn't have to be paid for though. Here comes my obligate turn, pardon me for it, but I can't resist. This asking for second at about the same age was one of the contributing factors to my strong affection of Oliver Twist. "Please sir, I want some more."

I only take seconds once a week, so my answer is no. I took seconds as a teenager, but that was a long time ago.

Never take seconds. I would assume that people do because the first was not filling enough?

If the remaining food is not enough/able to be kept for another meal it makes sense for people at the table to finish it (rather than waste it).
