I know I probably asked this before but when I am at school fo some reasons my peers think I'm a complete moron. I have ASD and am 17 and I get a lot of facepalm reactions by other peers. I have some situational awareness so I act like I don't know what I am doing. A lot of my peers think I need specisl help in wich I don't. Whenever I am in a social situation and I feel uncomfortable in it I act like captain obvious around them and I would say the most stupidest things to people. My peers always ask me if I was ret*d but I always say to them no but I'm not sure. In cooking on time my group thought I was stupid so they always let me be the supplies person and would let me get the supplies. I have a hard time remembering what to get so them when I forget my peers flip out so now my peers write down a list of what I need to get and I feel embarrassed that people are trying to help me by doing that. They also would not let me handle knives because they think ill cut my self. I don't know why but I'm always am thought of as a complete moron to other people I don't know why. Is this me?

I cant judge your situation, but i think people sometimes view me in the same way. people tell me to my face that when they first met me i seemed very dopey/stupid, but then ocasionaly say clever stuff and they start to think i'm smart when they get to know me.

Some of my peers thought the same way about me when I was in school.

Quick story: In elementary school, the teacher decided to call up the students in groups to leave, so she called the girls up then the boys second. I wasn't paying attention to what she was saying, so when she said, "Let's go," I, and one other boy, got up with all the girls. After the usual "Oh, what pretty little girls you both are," mockery from the teacher, some boys decided to have fun me, too. When I pointed out that another boy (who was standing right there with them) did it too, their response was, "Yeah, but we like him."

Moral of the story: You probably are NOT screwing things up much more than everyone else does on average, but because the others don't like you as a friend, every mistake you DO make is the 'dumbest thing ever'. Don't be so quick to underestimate yourself.
