Earlier this morning

Mom: I want you to mow the lawn today.
Me: Aarrgghh!! !
Mom: Why do you always growl at me like that? You're not Chewbacca.
Me: Well then, what do you expect me to say when you tell me to do things?
Mom: You're supposed to say "sure, I'd love to help you out with that."
Me: I don't even think I could say that without being sarcastic. And would you really want that? Do you really want me to flat out lie to you just to make you feel better?
Mom: YES!

Later today

Mom: Hey, would you go check the mail for me?
Me: *sigh* fine, I'll do that.

I bring back the mail and go to get a glass of tea. My mom starts reading the mail.

Mom: Why do they have to be so nice about it? Do they think that I don't know that they just want my money? Talking sweet to me isn't going to make me want to send them money.

Seriously? :wall:

I noticed people tend to be expect themselves and others to be more "socially acceptable" and dishonestly polite/nice face to face, but almost everybody knows someone's "true intentions". So, when it's not someone or some entity/organization they're not face to face with, they're comfortable with calling it out. It's where a lot of "talking about someone behind their back" and "back stabbing" originates from.

I actually had no idea that this was funny. I was simply pointing out the illogicalities of the NT thought process.

No need to apologize, I'm glad you thought it was funny. I don't know, maybe it is, but it's kinda hard to say from a first person perspective. Don't you talk to your mom like that, or am I even more of an aspie than I think I am?

Thank you. I was starting to think my "serious response" was way out of place, and I started to wonder how the hell could I really be an aspie. But, seeing that you were serious, I guess my response was actually appropriate. Maybe I'm NT after all!

It's ironic because she calls me out for being honest and not sugar coating everything, saying that she would rather me lie to her, but yet when she receives junk mail, she's irritated by it's sycophantic wording.

Not only is this illogical behavior, but this seems totally backwards to me. I understand that there's a reason to be nice in a formal setting, but if I can't be honest with my own fricking mother, who can I be honest with? That just doesn't make any sense to me on any sort of level.

Oh, and the best part, she denies what she said earlier because she doesn't want to be seen contradicting herself. Once again... WTF?

You should have called her out on her irony.

EDIT: Oh you did call her out. Maybe she just has a bad memory or she could just be denying it as you've said.

Carry a tape recorder. Make her listen to it then she can't deny it.

Oh dear lord. The general illogicalities of society.

My mother does this also (although not my dad - I'm starting to think he's at least SEMI aspie!), it annoys the frick out of me.
