I'm not sure if this is an AS problem or a Dyspraxia problem. Most likely it's a Dyspraxia problem because I was also diagnosed with Dyspraxia.
I do have difficulties tying shoe laces, and also balloons, no matter how much I practice. Anyone else have the same problems?

I'm not good at it, but I've got bigger problems to worry about.

I'm ok with shoelaces, I didn't learn until I was like 8 or 9 though. I try to tie my shoes so I can just slip them on and off so I don't have to deal with it every day. I can't tie balloons to save my life though. I'm not very good with other tying tasks either.

Me too but it's only a topic, not my main worry.

I never really learned how to tie my shoes laces the "normal" way...I just tie it with bunny ears.

But, that has caused problems in sports, like I've been running in races or workouts and the shoes would come untied/come off. So, it is a good skill to know, luckily I can run with only one shoe though.

I know how to make a one knot and I use it for everything. The number of repeats indicates the severity of the binding problem: to keep my shoes on I repeat it once, to bring home lumber on the top of my car I may repeat it 47 times. I keep buying books on how to make other knots, but unfortunately that's not the same as learning to tie them.

It is generally accepted that all people with true Aspergers do have some issues with gross and/or fine motor skills. I would assume that many aspies would have trouble tying their shoes if they have impaired fine motor skills (and many do). I read in a book that the vast majority of people with aspergers also have dyspraxia (which can also happen with autism, but autism don't go hand-in-hand quite the same way as aspergers and dyspraxia frequently do). I have autism, and I don't have much problem tying my shoes. I cannot remember when I first learned how (well...I remember learning, but I don't remember what age I was. I think I was fairly average though).

I have a very hard time tying something that's not my shoe laces. I have more important things to worry about.

I can tie my shoes fine but years ago my brother saw me tying my shoes and laughed because he said I tie them like a little kid. I'm not going to be able to describe it but it's been noticed by someone else. Maybe he showed them or brought it up. I still tie them the same way.

I usually keep my shoes tied and just slip them on and off. But that's because I prefer that not because I can't tie them.

I Didn't know how to tie shoe laces untill I was 12 I'm not all that good with tying other things as for balloons I can't even blow them up either.
We used to have to tie newspapers for recycling and I had trouble doing it they would come undone. Thank goodness we now just throw them in the recycling bin.
