I recently learned about these Toastmaster clubs (http://www.toastmasters.org/). From their website: -

"The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self confidence and personal growth."

I seen that the local club gathers very close to where I live twice a week. Golden question -- has anyone with AS tried this as an attempt to improve their symptoms? I'm tempted to try it out....

I think from self esteem point of view it might be better for aspies to try out the NT stuff like toastmasters as opposed to something designed specifically for aspies. that way they can see themselves as more "normal". Irnoically, whatever is designed for aspies might well be similar to NT stuff anyway; after all, what else can anyone do besides "teaching"(whether it be teaching NT or teaching aspie). The only difference is that in one case it is constantly being shoved into your face that you are an aspie while in the other case it isn't.

I go to a Toastmasters club for 10 months out of the year. I really enjoy it and I notice that I'm more assertive as well. :)

Neat! So do you go twice a week? Are you open about your AS with them -- is it ever brought up?
