Make a resolution at the beginning of somthing like the school year... To make friends or be more popular ?

Or were you happy with your social self

I did like to set a target for myself, which was always ''to not be so shy any more'', but it never did work out the way I expected.

Not the school year but the new school as such - yes, always. And I always failed. I thought all I needed was just being more talkative.

My resolution was to find the pill that would make me invisible for the year. I failed.

I never really held up to goals like that, besides personal projects, and those were independent of the school/calendar schedule.

I'd make that resolution every year and it seemed that with each passing year, the kids in my regular classes wanted nothing to do with me. It doesn't bother me now. I don't really have time for the NT World anyways.

That sounds like my goal although I didn't consider it to be pretending. A lot of times I was so anxious about going that I did feel sick. Later I just refused.

I was forced to make that resolution to make friends, then was disciplined when i couldn't do that.

Each fall during my middle school years, I would always make a promise to myself that I wouldn't be so nervous at school. At the time, I wasn't aware I had a problem with anxiety - I thought I was just shy. Of course it never worked.

I pretended being sick for practically the whole first semester in the 4th grade.

I always try to tell myself with a new job, new gym or with new housemates that this time I will try to be more approachable and not weird people out without even talking to them. Yet the cycle still continues!

Nope I knew nothing about it. I only thought it was in a book Ann M Martin did with Karen's New Year. I thought it was just something Karen's family decided to do. I didn't know it was a tradition some people around the world did.

Same as you guys pretty much. Sometimes I genuinely did have an upset stomach as I was that anxious about facing the day. Even when I had to go, sometimes I would just take it upon myself not to show up for particularly tormenting classes. I did eventually achieve my goal near the end of gaining enough confidence to stand up to these people which got them to back off, most of the time.

I make them, now (not to make friends, though). I told myself i would never use the elevator until i graduated. I kept that promise.

I tried to keep a similar promise at another gig i had BUT do to certain circumstances i was unable to do it.

IF I had of come to a staircase FIRST, i would have rarely used the elevator......would have made for some very interesting situations. LoL.

I was genuinely sick fairly often in elementary school and I definitely enjoyed being home with a high fever over being in school most days. I made resolutions before each school year that I would apply myself and fit in better, never happened except for the second half of my Jr. and Sr. year of high school I did get straight A's for once, but by that time it was too late - I'd missed out on more advanced classes and had already been pigeon holed by family as someone who wasn't cut out for college so after I graduated high school I stayed at home for a year and did nothing.
