I already wrote of my meerkat obsession but here's one on my obsession with Lion King and the "furry" genere. Yes, Mother, "furry" is more than people dressing up as animals to knock each other up......

I was OBSESSED with TLK as a kid on a level that made people in the mental health field worry. One physiatrist asked me why I liked TLK so much and I told her I did because there were no people in it. That really creped her out and she asked me why I didn't like people. At the time, I couldn't really express myself very well so I was at a loss for words but now I could tell her why....because people were never nice to me.

But anyway, the main reason I loved TLK so much was because there were no people in it. TLK was my escape from bullies and people who couldn't accept me for who I was. Then some hack named Julie Taymore had to come along and f**k things up. Whenever people see me wearing a TLK shirt, they ask me if I saw the stage show. I tell them yes and then they ask if I liked it. I tell them no but I never go into detail about why because I don't really think could understand. But I can't really do anything TLK related without seeing references to that abomination You didn't just rape my childhood, Miss Taymore...you ass raped it.

Anyway, I hated cartoons about people and movies where animal characters didn't talk. I DESPISE the live action 101 Dalmatians because they don't talk. A lot of people claimed they loved it because the puppies were so "cute". I was never much of a dog person and the puppies were no cuter than any other puppy. I never really found puppies that cute to begin with. I hated all cartoons with an animal and human cast because the animals usually always sided with at least one human. I secretly wanted to see Megan from My Little Pony get bucked and then trampled. For me to enjoy a cartoon with people and animals together, they had to be against the humans.

I probably would have loved Sonic SatAM as a kid but at the time the only Sonic cartoon I was aware of was AoStH and I just found that silly and annoying. I find Sonic SatAM rather frustrating as an adult because these animals are clearly capable of using computers and technology, they surely would know how to load and shoot a gun and pop a cap in Egg Man and crew. Okay, that probably wouldn't go over very well with media watchdogs since the target audience was kids.

I've seen guns used in Star Wars and Transformers cartoons that are specifically aimed at kids; but once I think about it, no one really gets harmed by them so maybe it's rather stupid to wish they used guns or something. I can't really see Sonic using a gun anyway. I can totally see Sallie using one if she totally had too but I can't see any of the characters being trigger happy maniacs like some of my characters are. But anyway, since they are animals, couldn't they at least bite their human foes? I don't know, I kind of prefer Sonic X (in Japanese of course) anyway.

I suspect if I were a kid today, I would have a "dangerous" obsession with Kung Fu Panda because there are no human characters in it. But with more knowledge and awareness of autism spectrum disorders as there is today, perhaps I never would have developed such a pathological distain for the human race in the first place.

You know you can end your pathological hate for the human race, right?

I don't know how this is scary. I can totally understand this. Just replace animals with mechanical objects, and that's me.

I also suspect Sonic the hedgehog might be a strong obsession if I was a kid today. While I admit it's like a million times better in the original Japanese, I actualy sorta perfer Sonic X to SatAM. The only think I like about SatAM really is Princess Sallie becuase it's nice to see a tomboy character who isn't so extreme she comes across as a transvestite than a tomboy. Anyway, sure there are human characters in Sonic X but go online and there are clubs dedicated to the bashing of Chris Thorndyke. EVERYONE hates this character. People make a sport of bashing Timon from Lion King but he has a big fan following as well. If Chris has any fans, they are in a minority. Anyway, if I were a kid today, I think I would grow up to have an obsession with foxes or kitsunes instead of meerkats. My mom says I loved Timon so much as a kid because I could relate to a loudmouth. Aside from his epic cuteness, I like Tails so much because he is so smart. I never idenified as being smart as a kid and actualy idenifed as being stupid. But as I said, times are diffrent today so perhaps I would have idenifed with being smart if I were a kid today.

I was always anti "real people" in movies and cartoons and things, so I can relate to what you're saying. I loved animated movies and cartoons when I was a kid and that was about it. I didn't want to watch any of those children's shows that had real people in them. I was OK with puppets and things, though I still thought cartoons were superior. I didn't like it when people dressed up in animal costumes though because I thought that was scary. And I absolutely hated any of those crossover programs where the cartoons and people would exist in the same world. I avoided Roger Rabbit and this one Space Ghost program like the plague because of it. It irked me to no end.

I don't think my obsession with "pure" cartoons was based on a hatred for people, though. I think it was more that I was just a purist of sorts.

I can relate. Growing up I too decided that humans were hypocritical ****es. Anything that let me escape from that was my salve.

This is the reason I want to use Julie Taymore as the pinyata at my next party. She tottaly f****d up what I loved most about Lion King.

That sounds a lot like me, actually, just replace Tails (he IS adorable, I might add) with Ratchet. :)

I realize this is not exactly on topic, but Tails was always my favorite character in the Sonic universe.

You can end your pathological hatred for the human race by mass genocide. Though that would probably be frowned upon.

*shrugs*

Wall-E is my favourite movie these days. I've never found it easier to empathise with characters than in that movie. I just wish they left all the humans out.

I'm the opposite. I hated movies with talking animals, because I found them unrealistic and uncanny valley. Animals do not talk! I did like movies focused on animals who acted realistically, though, such as the Beethoven series. But my absolute favorite was Animorphs, which is about a group of superheros who can turn into animals and are combatting an invasion of mind-controlling aliens. I found a lot of metaphors for my own life in how their enemies could look like anyone, and how no one knew about their secret battles and instead thought they were just goofy teenagers. And I really, really wanted to be able to turn into an animal - especially a cat. I also felt like my teachers were trying to get into my mind and make it work the way they wanted, so it was easy to imagine them as mind-controlling aliens.
