I find it very difficult to write out the simplest message. i was just wondering if this was a symptom of AS and if it is is there a way to overcome it because i would really like to improve my writing.

It can be a symptom. But it is not universal. Some people on the spectrum (me) prefer writing and can be quite verbose (who? me?)

I think it's harder for those of us who have the emotional issues. NOw if it's writing a book, there might not be an issue, but if it's telling someone off with a letter, that becomes a bit more problematic.

I used to find writing very difficult. My mind tends to go through a million subjects at the same time. I had difficulty focusing on a single subject long enough to write it down in a coherent fashion. I still do to a degree, but repeated practise makes it better.

Wrating writing topic

For me it is easier to explain myself emotionally by writing out my feelings and conveying this to someone.

I write well - but I have horrible handwriting. When I was a kid my parents brought in a tutor in second grade to try to catch me up in terms of handwriting style and speed. That was a bad summer. I had juvenile arthritis, though, which may go more to the cause.

All I can say is thank you to whomever invented the word processor. I am still not a stunningly fast typer, but at least what I write is legible!

I have actually won literacy awards in middle school, and I was nominated for the high school literacy award last year. (It's a big thing around here)

I was always at least a pretty good writer (people enjoy reading my stories). At least if I got a computer to work with. My handwriting is awful. I also type extremely fast, so there you go.

I can type pretty fast blind on keyboard, but my thoughts just don't take the form of words the way and speed they should IMO, so I always end up a VERY slow poster/writer, regardless what language I use. I have a tendency to read over and over my post and edit for style and grammar, add or take a little here and there, and it's way after bed-time when I finally hit the submit button...

I find it quite easy to type my thoughts out on a computer. It doesn't matter what order the thoughts are in when I type (I type as I think), because it's easy to re-arrange them later, replace words and correct grammar and punctuation. I will reread this post several times and make several changes before I submit it. If I'm writing something by hand, I usually draft it out, alter it considerably, then rewrite it. My handwriting is tidy, if I take my time.
