My roommate is very tolerant of all of my stims, but he just picked on me for rocking when I heard a song on my Ipod that made me happy. It was a happy rock, but the overwhelming joy was just as much an intense sense with the music that it provoked such a stim. Is this normal for us?

rocking specifically, no, but i am affected by music, so it it very possible that i start 'happystims' when listening to especially good music.

i rock at any strong emotion (including happiness) and i dont consider it abnormal. stimming is a method of reacting to strong emotion isnt it, so why not happiness?

i do like the idea of calling them happystims :D

I tend to get happy when listening to music that makes me happy and this emotion tends to go somewhere. Usually to humming or tapping, but rocking isn't completely out of the question either.

Yep! I rock when giddy, or anxious, or angry. I also squeak in a way that is hard to describe! When it's stimulated by happy feelings, I call it a Joygasm!! I make a lot of odd sounds....different sounds are assigned to different feelings, to signal my husband and rfriends when I am in distress, or overjoyed, or chill.

I rock all the time whenever I'm listening to music. Whenever I'm feeling excited, I flap my hands or even squeal (but only if there's nobody else around).

Yeah, I stim when I'm happy. :D I figured it was just my way of expressing my joy.

My happystims are rocking (if I'm seated), jumping up and down (if I'm standing), flapping my hands and making trilling noises. The last two I picked up from a severely autistic kid I knew, I seem to have a tendency to unconsciously imitate stims.

I sort of "dance" whenever I'm listening to the music I truly enjoy. It's a rocking-bouncing to the rhythm kinda thing.

Yup, I do that.

I wouldn't get too much on your roomie's case for getting annoyed. Most roomates get annoyed at each other's quirks eventually; it's a natural consequence of having to live squished together with another person like that.
