To give an example, "leak in the toilet" became "snake in the toilet".

Has anyone been in this situation before, and how do you slow down to avoid this? Thanks!

Talk slower. Just do it. There is no special talk slower mechanism.

My parents say that when I finnaly learned how to talk at age 4, I talked so fast you couldn't understand what I said. I had to have speech therapy to learn how to slow down.

I used to do this and my son does it now. I think it's an anxiety thing. I had to learn how to slow down and antidepressants helped with the anxiety.

Somehow I not only don't realize how uncomprehendingly fast I speak sometimes, but also don't hear the vast difference between the perceived sound of my voice and reality. I used to think it has to do with not hearing my own voice well, so I don't have sufficient feedback. It may be true to some extent though. Practicing by speaking into a mike and listen to it in headphones may help, I was just always too anxious to try it out.

I often speak too quickly for people to understand me. I've found that the only way to overcome it is to make a contentiousness effort to speak slower when I need to be understood.
