I met a new friend that I think has AS. He likes to pace and he's immature and is obsessive about certain things. He also is pretty smart, speaks formally sometimes, and also doesn't work or drive yet. When me and him started to talk about things, we had a connection and what was like an instant understanding of each other. My friend said that one time one of his teachers said that they thought he had autism, so I hope his teacher was right because I think that's cool if he has it and we had randomly met. Sometimes though I feel that he has better social skills than me, because when we're all hanging out he is a little more social and I feel like he reacts better to situations. He knows when our other friend is joking but I don't. He also knows better than to argue and I still haven't learned. When I observe his " good " social skills I wonder if maybe he doesn't have it, but I'm not sure what to think.

well, autism is a spectrum disorder, and no two people are the same. For me coping mechanisms kick in(sometimes) when i am in social situations. Maybe like me, he has the ability to think about these situations and search for the right response. While he is good at this, he might be more immature or obsessive or...(fill in aspie trait) It is to be expected. However he is not sure whether he really has it so suggesting that he goes for evaluation might be a good idea.
