My mother is always marveling at the speed at which I eat, and sometimes telling me I eat too fast. But what am I supposed to be doing other than eating? Take a bite, chew it ten times, contribute to a conversation, watch a segment of TV, save an oppressed village from Columbian terrorists, then take the next bite? I guess I’m not here to screw around. The food needs to get in my stomach and I get it in there. Anyone else eat at a speed that NTs think is too fast?

I eat incredibly slowly. I eat much less food than normal people in the same amount of time.... of course this isn't a big deal because I tend to eat less food than most people anyways.

I normally eat fast, then I got my braces. They've forced me to slow down. :|

Is there any empirical data supporting that claim?

I eat much too fast. I know it is horribly bad for you, and doesn't give your brain time to process you are already full. Still I can't really help it.

No, but I think there are more benefits to eating slow. You get full faster and you tend to not overeat as much.

I eat very fast, to the point where it's actually socially awkward for me. I don't like eating with others around because they invariably comment on how quickly I've hoovered my meal.

I also can't stand the sound of other people chewing, but I suppose that's a whole other reason!

I eat insanely fast too...cant slow down. I dont understand how people talk and chat and have this bonding over food. I just want to get it overwith

I tend to eat very fast and I get annoyed when people tell me to slow down. I just move to another table if that keeps happening. I heard it makes you gain weight but that was never the case with me.

Yeah, I can't stand it when people point it out, or tell me to slow down.

That said, I've tried to slow down but I've had limited results. Like Jojobean I can't seem to slow down.

Jesus. Here’s how poor my memory is: I saw this topic listed and thought it said, “Poll: Do you eat fast food?” And I clicked on it meaning to reply. It wasn’t until I saw the replies that I realized it was my own topic, posted less than two hours ago.

I eat really fast partly because I grew up with three brothers who would spear food off my plate but also because I'm never sure if something about the food will make me gag. (sorry, I know that's gross) Best to get it down quick.

I read somewhere that not chewing your food completely can contribute to more food sensitivities and even allergies because it starts to irritate your gut and will eventually be recognized as an invader. I can't remember where I read that so I can't really back it up, but it would explain why peanuts apparently hate me now.
