I have the bad habit (affliction?) of staring directly into people's eyes during a conversation. I find it very uncomfortable when talking to a person wearing sunglasses because I don't know where to look. Does anybody else experience this?

I hate looking in people's eyes so when they wear sunglasses I love it cuz then I can look them in the eye without REALLY looking them in the eye :P

If I'm not talking to them tho I get real uncomfortable cuz I can't tell where they're looking and so they MUST be looking at ME of course -_-

Typically I can barely see someone's eyes through sunglasses. As far as looking into people's eyes during conversation, that's a common thing, I think the issue would be continually looking without ever looking away.. well, technically you have to look away eventually.. it's the length of eye contact. As far as why the length of eye contact would disturb anyone, I don't know. It's probably an intimacy thing. As far as why that would disturb anyone, I don't know. Maybe everyone on Earth is ultimately insecure.

if you always wear sunglasses then people don't know when you stare at peoples eyes (or look passed the side of their head instead of their eyes), if they can't see your eyes they assume the norm. just a tip.

I think I get a little paranoid around people wearing sunglasses thinking they are looking at me. So what do I do? I stare at them to try and figure out if they are looking at me.

yeah it doesn't matter if you look at people when you're the one wearing sunglasses. if you don't face them (tilt your body like you're looking passed them), then they won't know you're looking at them. use your eyes instead of your head to look, if you know what i mean.

edit: but really, try and train yourself not to care. there gets to a point in life where you just say "hey i've got friends, i don't need to impress these dick head c**t munchers in the supermarket and i'm going to look how ever the f**k i want and talk to myself while doing it. I'm a freak, people love me anyway and the rest can go to hell"

I almost never look people in the eye for more than a few fractions of a second. There's just so much more to look at in the average room for me. When I need to maintain "eye contact" I cope by looking past the person like I'm trying to see what's behind them.

if you want to learn how to avoid eye contact without being rude, go to a train platform and watch all the NT's ignore each other while they wait for their train to arrive.

edit: but you better wear sunglasses while you do that. ahahaha...

I love using that to my advantage 8)
especially since I'm a highly visually-oriented person (trained as a sketcher),
so my eyes look everywhere  , and this confuses lots of people.
With glasses I can get away with it.

I never make eye contact, so it makes no difference to me.

I prefer people to be wearing sunglasses when I talk to them. I generally look at people's mouths or noses when they aren't wearing them, with the occasional look away when I start to feel self conscious.

I have this same "problem." I'm a writer (not professionally...just for fun) and I always want to write the best descriptions I can in my stories. So I, too, look everywhere and when I see something that interests or puzzles me (like trying to figure out what I would call the color of someone's pants, for example) I tend to stare until I figure it out. This can lead to some embarrassing scenarios (Mostly on my part...I don't know about the other person because nobody's ever said anything).

i do not look at peoples eyes, but i do see them peripherally.

Wearing sunshades help me feel less self-conscious. Without them, my face feels... exposed, undressed. I don't like my eyes to be seen. I wish it were more acceptable to wear sunshades indoors.
As for everyone else, I don't mind it. Depending on the style, it even looks kind of cool.
