I was just wondering something... if there are any aspies that are like this or if it was just me.

Anyway, I love being in the water. I always feel calmer being IN the water yet... once I get out, I start hating the clingy wet feeling of water against my skin. I even feel it after drying off and when I go to sit down or put on clothes... it just feels like the cling to me and I hate it even more.

Is it me or are there any other aspies like this as well?

I like swimming. I have a hard time relaxing in water tho, because I have a high density and low buoyancy,
so I need to make an effort to stay afloat.

I doubt it's an Aspie thing. My NT friends like to swim with me.

I love the water when I was living at home we had a pool when it was summer and when I wasn't working you'd find me in the pool I love the feel of the water its very calming and relaxing to me. Mum and Dad used to put me in the bath when I was young to settle me down. I also used to goto the beach on the weekends and go bodyboarding for many years I loved the waves yeap I was a surfie loved it. The best way to settle me down when Im having a meltdown is to stick me in the shower or the bath or throw me in the pool I settledown straight away. s to stick me in the shower or the bath or throw me in the pool I settledown straight away.

I'm hydrophobic. I won't go swimming, either on a beach or in a pool, and I won't take a bath. (Showers only.) I try to dry off as well as I can after a shower, but I don't like how my skin still feels wet for about 15 minutes afterwards.

I always have, and I found out that it is a common Aspie thing. Apparently the sensory workings as well as the deep pressure make a difference.

I don't think I have any feelings about water different from NTs that I've ever noticed. The pool is nice on a hot day, but I don't really swim well or strongly, so I don't want to be in over my head. Bathtub and shower, fine. It's nice being wet and air-drying afterward, too-- all the sticky oil and sweat off my skin, just clean water.

My daughter love to swim - in fact I think she might be part fish, just like her daddy. BUT, she hates the feeling of water spraying on her face in the shower. She hates it so much she can't properly wash or rinse her hair because of her avoidance to it. It's probably a sensory thing - the pressure, the constant flow... something. She can't really articulate what it is about it she dislikes. It confuses her too because she loves swimming underwater...

Yeah I was thinking that too because of how the water clings to your skin after a bath. So even after you dry off... the water still seems to feel wet and weird. I just hate that feeling yet I don't mind being in the water but whenever I sweat or I am wet... after I just... can't stand that feeling.

But water in general, always seems to clear my mind and help me think a little better. It gives me time to think and space from everything else. Being in the bathroom in general seems to be like an escape to think and be away. I know it sounds weird but I always feel like being in the bathroom alone... near water or not, I just feel calmer in there. Whenever I had my tantrums, I always used to go into the bathroom and lock the door to calm down. It always helped.

Water is incredibly calming to me. My boyfriend calls me a selkie.

I've heard about this as a pretty common autistic thing.

I hate that too... like in the pool... I always hate water being splashed at me or being sprayed with it. It just... bothers me. She sounds a lot like me though. O_o I mean I don't mind using a showerhead because it doesn't bother me as much but taking an actual shower where I have to stand up... I prefer taking baths if I can avoid the shower head. But I have one those hosey ones so it doesn't bother me as much as one you have to stand under.

Yes, yes, yes!! Couldn't agree more! It used to be a REAL struggle to get me in the bath or shower when I was a kid, and even today I don't really like it. This is because of the horrible anticipation I have toward that awful, slimy wet feeling I have to deal with when I get out. Also, getting soaked in the rain, can led to a DREADFUL meltdown.

When I was a kid and used to take baths (no shower....now we have a shower and no bathtub), I would stay in for hours. I would even get to the point where I had to let some water out and refill the tub up with hot water again. I LOVED splashing around, and I love the feeling of being under water. But I hate the wetness when I am not IN the water.

I also LOVE to swim. I spend most of time completely submerged when I go to a pool or a lake. I like the feel and the pressure of the water. And I DREAD getting out again (because I like being in the water, but also because of my sensory issues of the water on my skin once I get out).

Yup. We had a swimming pool for 13 years and I loved every second of it. I also find showers very calming and refreshing.

Same here. I hate sweating. Hate the feel of water on my skin. Can't wait for it to dry. I love being in the water! It's so relaxing!

I love sitting in front of a fan after a shower, feeling coolness as the water evaporates from my hair and skin. The effect is chilling!

I like the clean feeling after taking a shower. I used to bath until I was 20. I used to stay in the tub for an hour or so and replaced a part of the water when it got too cold just like littlelily. I listened to the radio or read a book sometimes. I also didn't like the feeling of getting out the water, although I guess it's not that unpleasant to me. I slowly let the water drain to help it.

As a kid I loved to play in pools. Now I swim once or twice in a month 2 kms (1.25 miles). My underwater swimming record is 50 m (164 feet) now.
