Usually in a group I am the person who orders just an appetizer while the others order main courses.

What stops me from eating more is because I tend to burp quietly. Even as I am typing this, I can feel little pockets of air quietly escaping through the back of my throat. There were times in the past I ate more, and what was in my stomach ended up being pushed out by the air escaping from my throat (in short, I threw up).

Anyone else here in the same situation?

You should see a GI specialist.

I did see a doctor a few years ago. After asking me a few questions the doctor said that it's due to stress.

I think this thing runs in my family because my mum and brother have this too, but it seems to affect me more. For the past few years it's gotten worse, probably because university and office life was more socially challenging compared to school life before that.

Stomach acid can cause an awful lot of damage to your throat, air passages and sinuses etc. if it is left unchecked. I would be asking my doctor to at least rule out other causes by sending me for an endoscopy examination and also prescribing me proton pump inhibitors or at least an antacid liquid.

If as you state stress is the cause, it still requires medication.

I would suspect GERD/hiatal hernia or a bile duct/gall bladder issue.

See another GI specialist....and if you drink carbonated beverages, I would stop.

I've got this before. If I gulp a big meal down, then drink a lot of fizzy drink afterwards, I get this bloated feeling in my stomach, and keep belching. If I push a burp out too hard to get rid of it quicker, I hiccup instead, which sometimes hurts. So I just let the burps come up on their own, which is annoying.

GI problems is extremely common with ASD's. My advice is watch your diet, eat healthy foods or you might cause sensitive system to become very sick. I learned this the hard way.

I hardly drink those. I figured out a while back that the gas in the drinks would fill me up too much for me to get enough food down.

I have a stomach ulcer and IBS. I left both for too long before I went to my doctor. Now I regret it. Go to your doctor.
