My mother wants, very much, for me to move out. She is tired of dealing with my crap. Also, she is worried that my younger siblings will begin to imitate my weird behavior and end up miserable like I am. Also, she wants me "to have a LIFE". This is problematic because, while I DO own a car, I do not have a license, I have no place to go, and no one to find a place and split rent. I really don't want to live alone. I would like to rent an apartment or house with some friends...or at the very least, people that I may not know well but can trust. And it would need to be close enough to my job for someone to be willing to drive me there until I obtain a license. Anyone need a room mate? I am worried that I will be kicked out soon.

Wow, what a tough place to be. I'm sorry you're going through this!

Is there any kind of autism society in the town you live in? Are you "plugged in" to them? If so, maybe you could ask around there & see if anyone else in your kind of situation is seeking a roommate.

Good luck & I hope things work out for you.

I hope you find some cool people to live with soon. I was wondering something...you say you have a car and no license. Did you have a license when you bought the car? How did you end up with a car and no license?

I was wondering the same thing. It seems rather backwards to me.

I hope you can find a place away from your mother soon. She's emotionally abusive on what seems to me to be an extreme level. Once you're away from her there should be worlds of difference (not the least of which is not having to deal with someone who tries to control you so thoroughly while using you as a scapegoat for everything that she thinks is going wrong).

Do you have a Craigslist site local to you?

At least you have a job. Depending on how much it pays it might be a good idea to try roommates when you first move out. Also I think it's easier to find a place this way if you manage to live somewhere without signing a lease.

Just open the local paper and read the classifieds for roommates.

First I'd suggest looking for locations close to work. Possibly walking or bicycle distance. Then just make appointments to interview roommate candidates to meet them and see the apartment.

Eventually figure out what you think you need for transportation. Either get a license or sell the car for money. If you're in a city you might save a lot of money selling the car on gas and insurance ore repairs.

I purchased the car with the intent of getting my license soon thereafter. It did not work out as I planned. Even with the car, I still don't get regular practice.

Don't worry about the license. I've never been caught.

Are you sure you are going to be kicked out? Parents don't always mean it.

OP, please ignore that eejit. No license = no insurance = if you run some poor bugger over they're doubly screwed.

The odds are in your favor. It's extremely unlikely that you'll hit someone. Just pay a bit more attention if you're worried.

Don't call me an eejit.

The lady who rear ended me and another driver was speeding and had no insurance. She was sued by my insurance and two others.

Seconding what others have said re: insurance.

I was in car accident just two weeks ago, and the lady who hit me has no insurance. I don't know how she's planning on paying to fix her car, and my insurance is suing her since she was at fault.

Because she has no insurance, I had to file a claim through my insurance rather than hers, which means I have to pay a $500 deductible that otherwise would not have applied. That is nearly a month's rent for me. Please do not drive without insurance.

The lady who rear ended me totaled my car and another (she was going 75 mph when she hit us.) Plus there was another guy who's pickup my car ricocheted into as a result of her hitting me. I don't think his truck was totaled. That's three vehicles she was sued over. Plus, she totaled her own car and was in the ER with injuries. I know because I was transported to the ER in the same ambulance as her. Luckily I wasn't seriously injured, just needed a few stitches on the side of my scalp or that would have added even more to the amount she was responsible for. Sure wouldn't want to be in her shoes, especially without insurance. With insurance would have been bad enough.

You don't really need to explain what would happen in the event of a crash. Everyone knows you're in trouble if you don't have insurance.

I'm suggesting that the odds are so small it's worth the risk to simply drive to work everyday and back.

If she lives in a state that doesn't legally require it, she could get by without having to show verification.

It's a bad idea even if the odds are low she'll get stopped. Stuff comes up. Friends require rides to places. She might need to drive on the Interstate. She might go on impulsive road trips.

It's a good idea to have liability insurance.
